FINAL OF A SERIES ON THE HAITI EARTHQUAKE

Port-au-Prince.- As the dust settles after the devastating earthquake two weeks ago, the extent of the damage to Haiti’s capital becomes all too apparent. This undiscriminating tragedy has hit every level of society, destroying buildings from the presidential palace to the lowliest slums in the Cite Soleil. Not even the church was spared. The city’s once impressive Cathedral now lies in ruins, a tragic testament to the brutal power of nature.

But for most Haitians the cost will be counted in lives lost. Estimates of the death toll continue to rise and with countless thousands still lying deep beneath the rubble the human cost is truly enormous. For the survivors there waits the agony of living among the dead and waiting for help that never comes. And as the world struggles to cope with the magnitude of the disaster impatience grows, and anger and grief walk side by side on the streets of the capital.

As President Lula said the WHOLE WORLD should be ashamed of how we (with some exceptions) forgot about Haiti until now!

As heartbreaking as these photos are, Its sad that the governments that are pushing for this unification will start exploiting these pictures to make Aunt Ethel feel guilty during her afternoon soaps as a means of gaining international support for the movement in the same way the ''sponsor a child ''ads make her reach into her piggy bank . The Sympathetic cries that echo from the Global chorus of violins that are playing will be a HUGE factor and well played card to keep the pressure on Leo and company to sign off on the botton line .

HAITI-DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MIGRATION

Immigration issue tests Haiti-Dominican relations

The Dominican Republic has been quick to come to the aid of its stricken neighbor, but the disaster has raised fears of a mass migration.

BY DANIEL SHOER ROTH
.
El Nuevo Herald

Arelys Ramírez recalled that since she was little, she was taught that Haitians were ``bad and aggressive.'' But last week she was in the municipal hospital in the border town of Jimaní treating earthquake survivors, alongside dozens of Dominican volunteers.

``I don't see them that way anymore,'' Ramírez, 42, said.

Josean ,,very nice posting and is also my experience that there are some very good people from Haiti who are totally non aggressive just as there good people from the DR ,,and the stories handed down from generation to generation get twisted and nice to have personal experiences to gain a better view .

From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about national pride, identity, and power strugle.

In 500+ years, what have they created and put together? Nothing, right!!!

Is that what you want? 500+ years of nothing. We already got plenty of our own ppl that do not understand what the past, present, and much less their future looks like?

And the fact, someone even thinks of uniting these two parts is an abomination to us DOMINICANS.

This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about what's right? Dominicans for Dominicans, and for only those who are willing to bring positivism.

I know it's hard for some to understand, however after 500+ years we are this far, and if we keep working for a better future we'll get it.

Therefore, we should eliminate any threat at whatever cost!!

DIOS, PATRIA, y LIBERTAD - FPDD.

FUERA LA DESTRUCCION DE LA RD. ARRIBA EL DOMINICANISMO.

JPDTrinity I guess math or critical thinking isn't your forte. The clock for a nation formed out of a colony starts after independence because prior to independence they are still a colony not in control of their own destiny. Haiti did not form until 1804.
