I really wish William the best of luck out there in lawrence (the second Washington Heights in the East Coast). I know, that I will sound pessimistic on this one, even though I am pulling for William to do a great job and ope up the New England's Irish political stronghold to a more diverse leadership. However, this is Lawrence, and if you have not been to Lawrence, then you better try and take a trip before making an assessment.

Lawrence is very depressed part of MA, I believe that is the poorest county in MA and with the lower per capital income and higher asthma rate among its citizens in the state. Moreover, Lawrence has been largely desolated by the mostly Irish working and middle class families that made it a county to begin with. That is why I was always surprise to see a non-hispano mayor in Lawrence since it is a rarity to see a caucasian walking in the streets.

the number one policy that Mr. Lantigua should put into practice is to punish those parents that take,

their school age kids to the DR every christmas. many of these parents will pull their children out of school in early December and bring them back well past the first 1/4 of January. At a minimum losing 12-16 days of schools. The DR must be the grandparents death capital during the month of December and April, i simply wonder why.

If you want to fix education, make the parents become part of the education system and hold them accountable for not helping the schools educate their children. Also, hold those parents that allow their kids to work past 7p.m. negligent.

finally, mr. Lantigua, if you ant to revitalize Lawrence's economy go ahead and crack down on the social services abusers, such as those receiving food subsidies with a husband that owns the corner bodega, those receiving rent stabilization subsidies (section 8) and a live in husband in the house and finally those that are not resident in the community, but are renting a house they own and report it as main residen
