NYC.- The Councilman of NYC District 10, the Dominican Ydanis Rodriguez on Thursday threw his support behind mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed legislation to ban smoking in parks and in the city’s other open spaces.
Rodriguez, who yesterday signed proposal 332 submitted to debate in the City Council, said he applauds Bloomberg’s decision, also supported by Council president Christine Quinn and councilman Gale Brewer, whom spearhead the initiative.
The legislation notes that “second hand smoke” in public spaces poses a health risk to those nearby.

I will use your own tactics here and say smokers break my rights as a non-smoker to have to smell their bad habits there for we can't allow some people special rights to cause harm to others essentially. If they want to smoke then fine but do it in your own space where they is zero possibility of harming or making other uncomfortable because that would be breaking somebody else's rights.
Right?

In Seattle smoking indoors was such a big problem that many times when I went out into a night club I had to throw away the clothes i wore that night. I was so happy. If they want to smoke then fine do it in their house or they can buy a enclosed glass box to avoid others being expose to their bad habits.

If that's the logic they're employing then they better ban exhaust from vehicles, which cause far more harm outdoors than someone's cigarette...ridiculous.

Then ban perfumes and colognes....Some are terrible.
Ban Bachata because it is a terrible assault on my ears
Ban White guys with Dreadlocks because they look stupid.
Ban fat girls in Tube tops because they are unpleasant to look at.
Ban Rosie O'Donnell.....No explanation needed.
BTW I am against the ban on Cell Phone usage while driving.
I am for banning incompetent drivers who can't talk and drive at the same time.
For those who don't like the smell of cigarettes in a club........F*ck off and go someplace else. It is a private business. If they want to allow smoking it is their business. To force them to ban it is just another form of Fascism!!!

This is the reason why I have said that reading comprehension is not your thing. Here you are posting a link that contradicts what you are trying to convey to the people here.
Here is a quoted text from the link you posted :

anthonyc, you are an an idiot par excellence. a night club might be privately owned , but it is a PUBLIC business. it falls under the proper purview of a department of the city , or state. there are rules laid out by the city for the conduct of such a business. and it is idiotic to equate something unpleasant to some, to something which has been scientifically proven to constitute a danger to others. in your everlasting arrogance, you believe that you should be allowed to conduct your affairs in any fashion which suits, and pleases, YOU. i have no idea what it is that makes you so inportant, because, from reading your postings, you are just an ignorant poseur and wannabe. if you do not wish to live by rules which are designed to assure public safety, go live on your own island, and leave civilised people to their own devices.

Why should a non-smoker change their life style just because some irresponsible person decided to pick the bad habit of smoking. The hypocrisy of your statements has to win a prize here. The other days when we were talking about health care you said that "smokers are responsible for picking the bad habits" and healthcare companies shall not be held responsible for their actions, fine. Now once the city decides to take the same action and trying to protect the general public from a person with bad habits, all of a sudden hell breaks loose in your own little world. Responsible people shall not have to change their life style to accommodate irresponsible ones. Is the other way around when you decide to take the wrong choices, smoker should fit into the normal world.

This is getting way ridiculous!!!
Where are the rights of the smokers? IT IS OK to ban cigarettes from closed spaces like restaurants, bars and the likes, but in open areas like parks and streets are way ridiculous.
Second hand smoking only occurs in closed spaces not open spaces.
If it is breathing pure air that they want to achieve, let's ban cars (can you imagine car exhaust in enclosed spaces?), let’s ban painting in buildings and houses very toxic, roofing tar and other roofing materials, black tops in the streets, let's ban perfume and all type of fragrances (many people are allergic to them), let's ban playing low radios in the streets and inside the houses (second hearing loose), let's ban all plastics for most are a hazard (VOC's and end up disrupting the food chain).
From: Dominican Republic, Civil Rights and Peace Activist for Our Dominican People
Councilman Ydanis is trying to help the community, but he has to realize Dominicans hardly smoke. Dominicans HAVE A MUCH MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM THAN SMOKING, and that is the high consumption of alcohol (which is waaaaaaaaay more dangerous than smoking), and or course the other problem of loud music playing causing second hand hearing loose, ever wonder why some Dominicans talk soooo loud?? Well, is being exposed to loud noises, the worst, most do not know is hearing loose.

Are they going to do like San Francisco. Those super liberals almost made cigarettes illegal then promoting to legalize marijuana. Smoking is bad, super bad, but we cannot ban smoking to later legalize something even worse like smoking marijuana.
