Santo Domingo.- Paris awaits Dominican Government’s confirmation on the authenticity of the artifacts from the Caribbean country seized upon entering France, diplomatic sources said today.
"We await the evaluation by Dominican authorities on the authenticity of those pieces," Dominican ambassador in France Laura Faxas said to Efe.
French Customs seized some 200 objects posing as contemporary handicrafts in mid 2009, when it discovered that the recipient, an antique dealer, didn’t exist.
The objects were then sent to the Paris Museum of Natural History to determine their value and concluded that 34 of them were original of the Taino culture.
"It was determined that several pieces weren’t reproductions and some had a great valor," Faxas said in reference to the first analysis conducted in Paris, adding that the French authorities would return them to Santo Domingo once the necessary procedures conclude.

if you were to read any article related to this story you would stop screaming like the french have stolen dominican art.....
the pieces were discovered by french authorities...
analized to see if they were fake or original....
now seeing that they are original pieces the french are now following protocol to return the pieces to the DR.
now who shipped them there? dominicans? or frenchmen?........probably a combination trying to make money.

the fact that they are Taino mean that they belong to Quisqueya. the fact that they are in France mean that they were probably found in Haiti the other side of Quisqueya i am Dominican, but those peaces are not only ours history lets have some compassion

according to articles to date their intention is to return them to the dominican authorities in France....after that its out of their hands and up to the dominican diplomats, etc., to determine where to put them.
it will be sad if it turns out that the french "say one thing and do another".
