PORT-AU-PRINCE-. Haitian and Dominican Technical delegates and World Bank representatives met yesterday to continue preparations for an international conference of donor countries who’ll meet in Santo Domingo at March 16 and 17 to discuss the devastated country’s reconstruction.

Discussed in the meeting, held in the Caribe hotel, which is still being rebuilt after the quake damaged it, were the fundamental topics to be included in three base documents which the Haitian Government will present to the international community in the gathering.

Rosajilda Vélez, of the Economy Ministry headed the Dominican delegation which went to Haiti together with Michelle Keane, head of the World Bank for the Caribbean region, who works with the Dominican Government in the coordination of the conference. They met with technicians of Haiti’s Planning Ministry.

The donor countries will review the documents to be presented by Haiti’s Government as a preliminary evaluation of the damages and of the aid which it requires to undertake the reconstruction in the short and medium term.

checks and balances is the only way to make sure the money doesn't evaporate. Also use the human labor on the ground, pay them a decent wage so the money can circulate thru the country.

Let's hope that there is a plan for investing in immediated, mid and long range education initiatives focused on assisting thousands of surviving PAP students who were on their way to professional degrees continue their education whether in or outside of Haiti as soon as possible. They are Haiti's future.
