Bogota.- President Alvaro Uribe announced a visit by Dominican Republic par Leonel Fernandez in the next few days, as part of the process to mediate for and improve relations between Colombia and Venezuela.
In press conference after returning from Montevideo where he attended the inaugural of Uruguay’s new President Jose Mujica, the Colombian chief executive said Fernandez’s visit was confirmed to Dominican vice president Rafael Alburquerque.
“This morning I spoke here with the vice president of the Dominican Republic. He communicated to me that president Leonel Fernandez will visit us in the next days,” Uribe said, and hailed Fernandez’s leadership and ongoing efforts as mediator between Colombia and Venezuela.
“He has been leading that group, of the Rio Group of countries which wants to help restore the good understanding, as it should be, between Colombia and Venezuela,” the Colombian chief executive said, adding that he awaits Fernandez’s visit and affirmed that he’s ready to collaborate in this process “with all enthusiasm.”
