Washington.– After issuing a preliminary report according to which an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 occurred near the Dominican Republic, the USGS has now confirmed that it was a false alarm which was mistakenly issued.

According to the original report, an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 had occurred and its location described as 130 miles northeast of Santo Domingo.

This is what USGS Official Website said in a statement:

Users of the USGS Earthquake Notification System received a message reporting a magnitude 8.0 earthquake near the Dominican Republic. This was a mistake. In an effort to increase our ability to detect smaller earthquakes in the Caribbean region following the January 12th earthquake in Haiti, the USGS began accepting earthquake locations and magnitudes from additional sources in the region. The message reporting a magnitude 8.0 earthquake near the Dominican Republic was incorrect and resulted in the distribution of the errant e-mail. We acknowledge this was a serious mistake and have issued a correction.

I immediately doubted the report of which came 6 1/2 hours after the fact,DUUU. I plotted the position on a nautical chart which put the epicenter at a distance of 34 miles on a heading of 033 degrees from Punta Cana. That puts it in the north end of the Mona Passage. There are no fault lines in the Mona Passage. The tsunami generated from a magnitude 8 event would have hours prior to the announcement erased most of what you can see in the coastal areas.

Thats a hell of an OOPS.

You're Right-----
This was one helluva OOPS on the part of the USGS, one of the most conservative arms of the US Government. These guys seldom make a mistake because of the many tiers of decision making that exists with them.

This OOPS was one helluva MISTEAK, Huh???

Guess a batting average of 1000 just isn't possible with any government, is it???

Howdie!

Before some of you guys who live to hammer the US about a number of subjects, stop and think for a minute or two about the fact that here is an arm of the US Government which has ACTUALLY ADMITTED MAKING A MISTAKE!!
Can you IMAGINE???
The DR Government certainly would not admit such a thing in a thousand years.
So which do you think should receive the most respect for veracity? The US or the DR??
Be honest now.

riosm.

The date, 12-21-2012 is supposed to be the date that Armadeddon takes place with earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, meteors, etc. bombarding the Earth and riddind it of a majority of the population.

This date is specific to ancient Mayan culture and is dipicted on their calendar as the date the World is destroyed by natural forces.

Look it up on Wiikopedia's website. Very intresting, if one believes that sort of thing.
