PAPUA NEW GUINEA.- Dominican open water swimmer Marcos Diaz will set out on his career’s most challenging feat at 8 p.m. tonight local time, when he starts the project Swim of the Continents sponsored by the United Nations, aimed at creating worldwide awareness on the Millennium Development Goals.

Diaz’s swim will link Australia with Asia, from Papua New Guinea, to Indonesia, and the other continents one by one, as part of the effort to take place throughout the summer. "We’re highly pleased with the support received so far and we want to dedicate this swim to all Dominicans and the entire world," the open water champion said.

Diaz said, in a visit with Papua New Guinea Governor General de Paulias Matane and Ambassador at large in Asia Hans Dannenberg, said he hopes his effort will promote development around the world . “We feel committed to contribute with our nation’s development and to support the initiatives which make the world a better place.”
