PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic.- The posh resort complex Moon Palace, enclosed with an area of tropical foliage, is the backdrop of an intense air, sea and land security lockdown since Monday before the arrival of dignitaries and other personalities from around the world who’ll decide starting today, Haiti’s immediate future in the wake of January’s devastating earthquake.

The more than 100 military, police and security agents inside and outside the sprawling complex have dogs trained to detect explosives, all terrain vehicles, aircraft and boats for round the clock patrols of surrounding areas and strict checkpoints for the task of protecting hosts and guests of the “World Summit on Haiti’s Future: Solidarity Beyond the Crisis,” slated to start at 9 a.m.

President Leonel Fernandez, who has drawn the attention to the devastated country’s situation, has convened the global Summit to obtaining a firm commitment from the nations and international organisms which have pledged aid for its reconstruction.

In eve of the conclave Fernandez noted that Haiti’s Government and the temporary internal commission formed for the payment commitments of the funds after the catastrophe will be in charge of the follow-up and materialization of the pledges.

Leonel does what he pleases. He is going to create a mess of things and at the end of the day we(Dominican Republic) will have to hire him after his term as president to fix what the government can't, because Lee-Fkn-Flea managed to fit a 4" square block into a 3" circle opening.

Mr. L-F is gaining his reputation and recognition in the other countries.......he knows how to earn his reputations by doing what in what time.

He is using the same kind logic for his people in DR., so he will become another Trujillo, Balaguer.... but does Dominican recognize this?

He want to expose DR to the world , that is great for DR., but his fatal point internally is he can not control the corruptions., drugs, dirty political things......

So, for me, he is wearing a smiling mask to outside world....... not real,, not honesty enough.

Here's what's wrong with the DR:

From todays's DR1:

Ubaldo candidate to Cy Young

Colorado Rockies ace pitcher, Dominican Ubaldo Jimenez (38) is the clear frontrunner for the National League Cy Young award. He showed his extraordinary talent again when pitching a complete game four-hitter as the Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 4-0. Jimenez has dominated in 2010. He has thrown 26 consecutive scoreless innings, breaking his previous franchise record for a starting pitcher, reports the Denver Post.

I am sure that Jimenez had a great two months, so far this season. But to think about it terms of the Cy Young award on THE FIRST OF JUNE is absolutely stupid.
This is what we always do in everything. We have a little success at something and then, instead of seeing it through, and doing the hard work necessary, we start to celebrate how great we are. And then, of course, we forget what we were doing and let it fall apart.

One of the delegates expressed his satisfaction at the end of the summit to another one of the dignitaries: "Well I believe we have had a very productive and successful World Summit on Haiti’s Future. I had such a nice time, I sincerely and truely believe we should do this more often."

They are definately making certain that everyone driving from Santo Dom to Bavaro knows what is going on. Literally a sign every mile. I would better appriciate the effort if they took the budget to put signs up and say "look at me" into the budget to improve the lives of Haitians. No doubt the contract went at a high price to a government supporter.

I swear that every drug, alcohol and police truck from the DR is here now! Good time for a drug drop!

Seeing that MP seldom excceds 10% occupancy ( the laughing stock of the coast...roar like a mouse) it would make the perfect venue.

Now...lets see action...not words! Where is Sean Penn? He should moderate the talks!

I hate to sound like a BLANK BLANK....

But.....I'm so glad all of those who attended the MOON BASH had such a great time.......somewhere along the line the word Haiti came up, what Haiti ! what about Haiti ? oh ! yeah....something must be done we'll all work out the details on our next visit all expenses paid to Punta Cana.

It would be nice if at least they donated the left overs to the street Children of Haiti in the DR.

The future of a People of a Nation is being decided in vacation land.....God help us......What's the world coming too.

Bauman: Jimenez having season for the ages
Hurler drawing comparisons with Gibson in 1968

Ubaldo Jimenez is not merely having a great season. He is having a season for the ages.

No Cy Young Awards are handed out on the basis of two months' worth of work, but to date, the Rockies' right-hander is having a season that can fairly be mentioned with the individual gold standard for pitchers, Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1968.

Gibson and his pitching colleagues were so dominant in that season that baseball subsequently lowered the mound in an effort to put more offense into the game. This is just one more piece of evidence that makes Jimenez's work even more impressive.

Roto Rush: Ubaldo Jimenez Completely Locked In

Baseball Analyst
Raise your hand if you're the best pitcher in baseball. On Monday I wrote about how Roy Halladay's perfect game cements him as the league's best; apparently, Ubaldo Jimenez had something to say about that. The Rockies breakout star absolutely dominated the Giants on Memorial Day, throwing 130 pitches in a complete-game shutout. The gem lowered his ERA to 0.78 after two months of baseball, and his WHIP currently sits at 0.90. He's been reminiscent of Zack Greinke in 2009, when the Royals pitcher threw shutouts in his first four starts and entered June with a 1.10 ERA. Is Jimenez destined for a Cy Young award as well?

Definitely. His Major-League leading 10 wins put him three in front of anyone else. He's allowed no more than two runs in a start all season, and he's thrown up zeroes on the scoreboard in six of his 11 starts so far. With Tim Lincecum struggling, the only thi

Atabey,
How in the heck did we drift off couse ?
Baseball has nothing to do with this article......unless the RICO baseball players are gonna help the Haitian Children !

Cbelk99,
Can you please just drop the words ugly "N" to discribe the poor Haitian Children, lets remember their future is be resolved ??? at the "Moon bash" paradiseland Punta Cana.

Insulting words like these only serve to inflame more hatred towards the real INNOCENTS.....the future of Haiti....the CHILDREN.
