CNN airs, comments press briefing

WASHINGTON.- Presidents Leonel Fernandez and Barack Obama met in the White House Monday afternoon and in a press briefing afterward revealed that they focused their talk on the region’s drug trafficking and the post quake assistance for Haiti.

Obama thanked Fernandez for leading the global effort to help Haiti’s quake victims, as the first teams of rescuers and official aid to reach the devastated capital. “I want to express our appreciation for Dominican Republic’s role in the crisis in Haiti. I think that his country’s role and Fernandez’s role in particular in helping to facilitate a rapid response was extremely important to save lives.”

The US leader said Americans would like to see that help to Haiti’s victims continue and hailed his Dominican par’s efforts in other regional crises. “We wish to see this continue, to help people of Haiti. That’s one example of the leadership role Fernandez has played. We also saw that in the Honduras crisis, as it unfolded with Fernandez leading the effort.”

Obama said they also discussed the “critical” issue of drug trafficking and crime and their potential to destabilize the region. “We have seen the cooperation thought the Caribbean basin initiative, president Fernandez and I have discussed how we can cooperate, from the supply side and from the demand side.”

“We here in the United States have an important obligation with the flow of drugs, weapons, cash, so the problem involves all of us. We also talked about working together on how to expand trade and business opportunities,” he said, and noted clean energy’s importance, citing Brazil’s use of ethanol from sugar case. “I think those opportunities also exist in the Dominican Republic.”

He added that he discussed with Fernandez how the two countries can work closer together and thanked Dominicans for their contributions to the U.S. “My message to the people of the Dominican Republic: Thank you for your friendship. Americans deeply appreciate the contribution by Dominicans expressed in the deep bonds of friendship. We also know that Dominicans make pretty good baseball players.”

Fernandez speaking in perfect English thanked his host and said they discussed mutual interests such as bilateral and regional issues. “We appreciate that despite your busy agenda with international issues, you take time out to discuss this regional problems of drug trafficking and international crimes and the violence these generate. I commend you for the CBI (Caribbean Basin) initiative; it’s only though our joint efforts that we can defeat this epidemic.”

As to clean energy Fernandez said his administration is working on wind energy and ethanol.

He said despite that the Free Trade Agreement with the U.S. has been in effect for more than five yeas, “we‘ve yet to take full advantage of it due to the global crisis.|

CNN airs, comments the press briefing

In an unusual broadcast the news network CNN covered the entire 20-minute long press briefing by Obama and Fernandez, and the anchorman Rick Sanchez called the Dominican leader a “superstar” in his country, winning three terms and noting his roots in the Upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights district.

What Obama should have said:

Leonel, you have done a pretty good job in trying to get help for Haiti, even though we all realize that most of the money will be misspent by you and your cronies. However, you are doing a horrible job managing your own country. Your people are are suffering, for the most part without work, and as the crime rates continue to soar, your people will suffer even more. Sadly, as of right now you are the best choice of government for the Dominican Republic, and that is really disgusting. Now get out and go borrow some more money. It's the only thing that you really do well.

No doubt there will be good chemistry between Obama and Fernandez, both have many things in common, progressive, Liberal, with a moderate, left wing ideologies. And coincidentally both were elected as the first none-white, mixed raced candidate democratically voted into office and Fernandez as the first , non-caucausian, native Dominican as president of the Republic.

"President B. Báez had wool afro hair and dark skin"

True however, I forgot to state that Leo F. was the first mixed race president voted to office during modern day history, elected through legitimate democratic policies. He is the first one in power after the establishment of a truely democratic government and the evolution of the DR into a civilized society.

Though Baez was a "president", I could not characterize him as such. He attempted to annex the DR numerous times. So you can't really call him a president, what true president does that? It was a period of great turmoil, and He was more or less like the rest of those guys during the early days of the republic, a bunch of Chieftains and he was neither a real president nor did he qualify as such. Outside the DR no one took him seriously. He just did not truely ullfillled the position as a president in my book. And I don't care what anyone says. Buenaventura Baez Mendez was a FLAKE and not a president.

Leonel and his cronies have stolen millions of dollars and the US doesn't care. The US and CIA are working now to have Leonel change the constitution so that he'll be president again.
Democrats and republicans in the US are evil. They work for big business. We need Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground again. RD needs Manolo and las Mariposas.

surely the United Nations should be addressing the issue of "environmental warfare" alongside the debate on the climatic impacts of greenhouse gases.WEATHER WARFARE"
World renowned scientist Dr. Rosalie Bertell confirms that "US military scientists are working on weather systems as a potential weapon. The methods include
the enhancing of storms and the diverting of vapor rivers in the Earth's atmosphere to produce targeted droughts or floods."(2)
Already in the 1970s, former National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski had foreseen in his book "Between Two Ages" that:Technology will make available, to the leaders of major nations, techniques for conducting secret warfare, of which only a bare minimum of the security forces need be appraised... Techniques of weather modification could be employed to produce prolonged periods of drought or storm. "

Mr. Obama:

The very very first step that you should tell and/ or "Mr. L-F" is "STOP THE CORRUPTIONS AND WITH HEAVY PENALTIES FOR THOSE CRIMINALS."

I strongly believe the LAW is used to guide people's activities and protect the majority people., when those criminals use "HUMAN RIGHTS" as a shield to protect themselves, Have they ever thought they are "RUIN THE OTHER PEOPLE HUMAN RIGHTS AND MAKE THEM IN A MISERABLE LIFE?"

If we aught to blame the United States of America and the Haitian Government are sharing the blame 50 50, because the United States of America the 700 pounder Gorilla nation for a long time do not proclaimed itself but instead portray itself as the key player in Haiti look now the situation is worst. With so much money invested in Haiti and nothing change meaning the strategies aren't good I wonder where the American watch dogs at to oversee the American government waste of their tax dollars.

I have been investigating their practice for the past 2 years that I returned to Haiti i have a full report it's a shame. Leonel Fernandez is just an innocent guy did not see the picture, what I know the democrats should look at their back carefully as those Haitians croocks can land them to jail in the United States.

Philippefrancois,
Understand the Haitian problem goes beyond 2 years.....The fact is that you fail to realize the Haitain Government as being the main problem where money, goods and aide first goes to the Haitian Gov. with no accountability then whats left is then dIspersed to the Haitian people. Private orginizations without Haitian Gov. interference do more and much better.
Quit finger pointing it does no good. Imagine this.....what if the U.S, private and other Nations donated ZERO before and after the quake ! then what ?
I've always said Haitians with private help must rebuild there own Country to become self dependent without strings attached, until then nothing will change. One has to look at the past in order to get a better understanding of what needs to be changed so the same mistakes are not REPEATED.
As I see it now the world has become the nanny state of Haiti or is LF a tool & refusing to see reality.
I ONLY WISH THE BEST FOR HAITI.
Take care.

I understand your point but fistly let me tell you that, go do some research about Haiti's debts that has been cancelled for the past years where are those monies who spent them and what are the situation now. Do you think the world would keep it like that all the time borrowing and cancelling all the time what kind of practice is that. The reality is that much of the Haitian political leaders get help from Canada, USA and France in launching their political campaign or practice, why do they help them for if they do not support them all the way. I know all of us here reading and posting in this forum ae not stupid and tell me if you are a leader in your country having the opportunity to travel to see other country and why don't you make even a water down version of what you hace seen out there.
We must acknowledge the incompetence of those guys it is true they have great education but they do not have common sense in that particular gift comes from God.

Philippefrancois,
I totally agree....sounds like back scratching on a massive political scale.

I still believe private donations from private orginizations with total control do a much better job then the Hatian / French / U.S / UN Gov. controlled effort.

I guess it's safe to say.......the HAITI situation a classic example of what NOT to do.

As a Dominican I never meet a Haitian I didn't get along with both in the DR or the US. We as human beings all have the same wants and needs for that is the Human common bond.

GOD save Haiti and her People for I wish them the best.

Take care Brother.

Let me tell you that, the reason why we have that tenssion on the Dominican side iis because the Dominican people at certain points are tired of what thye heard of Haiti and react badly to ones leaving in their homeland.
I spent about 1 yea an a half in the Dominican Republic badck in 1995 i entered illegaly, working in the construction sector, at the begining i used to sleep in the jobsite and so but later one a Dominican family had provided me a place to sleep in their house and treat me like their own son and at one point even fight with with a former boss engineer who used to drive me crazy.

Philippfrancois,
I'm glad a Dominican Family saw an injustice and went above and beyond to help you, which is proof we Dominicans are not all haters, yet there are still alot of them out there.

In the DR I'm more likely to get mugged, robbed or even killed by my own race then by any other.

Haiti needs more people like you and Miss Haiti more then ever if Haiti is to have any sort of future, and to think if the DR would of suffered all that damage like Haiti during that last quake.

Again....I wish the best for Haiti, we share the same Island.

ALL take care and GOD Bless.
