Santo Domingo.- Puerto Rico Police Superintendent Jose E. Figueroa Sancha affirmed Wednesday that it’s too early to say that the murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto’s “tentacles” reach prominent figures in Dominican Republic and in that island, a reversal of his statement to local media when he arrived in Santo Domingo on Monday.

“People suit and tie in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic are trembling with fear,” Figueroa Sancha said in Santo Domingo. “Those outside the law must be trembling and we sent them a loud clear message that regardless where they are, this work team will be there to catch them.”

But upon returning to San Juan the Puerto Rican official seemed to paraphrase the tongue twister, “I didn’t say what I said when I think I said it,” to describe his first statement.

“That’s very premature information. We must await a full investigation by the authorities. It’s very early to be saying that, here or in Dominican Republic,” he told the Puerto Rico newspaper Primera Hora.

He knows what he said and we know what he meant. He was obviously reprimanded for making any statements about the case by the justice department, which he should not have done, no matter how obvious it may be.

The only thing that spooked him is the reprimand he got from the justice department for making an accusatory statement in an on-going investigation. By making such a statement, he has created an unending cycle of follow-up questions to the same. He should have known better and was surely reminded of such.

I think the lawyers must have told him to be careful what he says so he does not prejudice any investigation or any case in the future ...I think it is sound advice and that we do not want any action from the police that is incorrect and which would give rise for any appeal from guilty parties ...best to go step by step without unnecessary comments .
