Miami.– The Immigration Department repatriated 20 illegal Haitian migrants to Port-au-Prince on two separate charter flights last week. The migrants were part of a group of 67 people who were apprehended on Norman Island on Aug. 15 and 16.

The first 31 migrants were taken into custody as they tried to escape through the hills on the south side of the island, police said. The rest were apprehended the following morning on a hillside. On Friday, immigration officials accompanied 16 Haitians, all women and children, on their return flight to Haiti. A second group of four Haitian men was repatriated Monday evening.

Chief Immigration Officer Dennis Jennings said the Immigration Department is “working steadfastly” to ensure the safe return of the remaining migrants, nationals of Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

The migrant identified by officials last week as a United States national was, in fact, a Dominican Republic national, Jennings explained. The man had been living in the US and had an American driver’s licence, but, after investigations, his true nationality was discovered.

If the United States is such good buddies with the rest of the Carrib, why then do only Cubanos' get to stay in the USA with wet foot/dry foot laws...

That should tell ya where you are on the ladder, at the very bottom

How did Jost Van Dyke in the BVI get its name ????
Written by: Crytonb99, 27 Aug 2010 6:30 PM
From: British Virgin Islands
The name came from the name of an 18th century Dutch settler by the name of Mr. Van Dyke. Van Dyke was part of a Quaker colony that came to this island in order to set up a plantation for sugar cane.

Hope this helps.

cryton ....it was a pirate haven and Blackbeard kept his women there when out raiding other ships ....when returning he observed smoke from the settlement near where Foxies is now .....He sent the Dutch cabin boy ashore to see what had happened ...His name was Peter Van Dork ...he returned to the ship crying and described a terrible fight that had taken place between the women who had been fighting for days ....Blackbeard slapped the cabin boy Van Dork to stop him from crying and demanded to know how many of the women were left .....Blubbering through his tears he replied ...." Jost Van Dyke...yes the heavily accented " just one dyke " became the name of the island or " Jost Van Dyke "

jimH ,the Jim who was the young hero of the story had many great qualities , being positive and resouceful and imaginative so I doubt if you could claim any relationship with him .but maybe if you went there to Norman Island you may find that it is to your liking and stay there .
