New York.– Pulitzer Prize-winner Junot Diaz, who is revered in Upper Manhattan for his writings about Dominican culture, threw his support behind Julissa Gomez Thursday in the race to represent Washington Heights and Inwood in the State Assembly.
According to Diaz, Julissa is fierce, knowledgeable, far-sighted, "no one will fight harder for the district and no one is more ethical.” The author of “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” is celebrated for his writings about Dominican culture and the lives of immigrants living in the tri-state area, including Washington Heights.
Gomez said she and the author met through an acquaintance more than
ten years ago, and said she was excited to receive his endorsement.

I’ve been living in Washington Heights for the past thirty two years, and I don’t let absolutely anybody tell me who to vote for. Plus all the politicians here in the Heights are the same.

People, Dominicans in particular, lets stop degrading ourselves. All races have good and bad people, so please stop inculcating that Dominicans are worst than the rest of humanity. We have good people too.

Rubirosa, you live in the US so there isn't a need to inform you of the negative perception many people have towards Dominicans. So to have a Dominican awarded such prestigious prize as the pulitzer should be an honor. Rubirosa, I respect your opinion, however, it would be best if we start uplifting our culture. Regardless of .......... if thats really the case, Junot can serve as a role model to our up-and-coming Dominican youths. For your information and whom ever is concern, there is a large population of young people decendant of Dominican parents doing what needs to be done to succeed in life. People, lets start uplifting our culture, please. Not only with words but rather with actions. If you believe it will be.

My perception about this gentleman is very low, how in his sane mind He will go against his own country and express negative and hateful opinions just to look and sound like a liberal, I'm proud
of my upbringing in the Dominican Republic and there is other things about Junot that don't re
present the best about being a good Dominican, because He won a Pulitzer price doesn't imply
that He should be the best role model for Dominicans in NY and the US, I rather go for somebody more humble and low key profile as Albert Pujols (St. Louis first base) which by the way has
his mind and heart connected and does many good things for poor people in the Dominican Republic.
Junot believes that is a God and can preach and say things against Dominicans because He
is now well known but THAT's IT other than having this prize what has Junot done or followed
to be an example or being respected by the Dominican community, believe me I'm not the only
one that feels repulsive about him

Don Alberto Pujols is the real deal ......for sure ...on and off the field

Junot Diaz is a nerdy bookworm and big a..hole, he knows nothing about politics, history or has the pulse on current Dominican sentiment.
He has stuck his foot in his mouth so many times, that now is a fifth columnist for Haitian causes. He wants to be a "sabrosón" but the even the female gender he frequently harasses, find him repulsive, among with a legion of others.
Junot BTW "you are welcome".

Where had this renacuajo been? LOL he had been all this time in old New York ever since he almost got lynched in DR last year. LOL Julissa is lucky I belong in the district bordering Westchester and the Bronx and not the Height. The way she spoke about him she probably hold his view regarding on our country as DO a good portion of Dominicans born oversea or go very little to the USA.

Rubirosa, you probably know some negative aspects of Junot that I don't, which might be the reason we have different outlook towards him. What I do know of him is that he is a MIT professor, Pulitzer prize winner, and worldly known, which gives him the potential of projecting the image of whom we can really be. Not only to our up-and-coming generation but to the world as a whole.
Albert Pujol, a great role-model for our kids but is that the only thing our youths will grow-up to be, athletes? Of course not. They need more options and Junot is doing just that, which is one reason we need to revere him.
Remember people, our kids learn through the process of socialization where they acquire a personal identity and learn the norms and values appropiate to their social position. We need to focus more on positive of people and see how we can best benefit from it.

there is no doubt a Pulitzer is worth more in all ways than another baseball hero ......but Pujols is probably the best human being in his comportment on a daily basis

Blutarsky, Rubirosa, people do have a negative perception towards our Pulitzer prize winner. You probably have good reasons to feel the way you do. But until I know different, I will continue on seeing him as I do, a positive role-model.
Blutarsky, in which way you feel a Pulitzer is worth more than a baseball player? In my opinion they are worth as much as they believe they are worth.
Look guys, it was really a pleasure having this communication with you. Hope we can do this again.
She's hot, I'd endorse her too...
