Fifth Consecutive Year by Hispanic Business Magazine

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines has been named one of the Top 60 Companies for Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine. American achieved this recognition for its commitment to promoting solid diversity initiatives in recruitment and retention of its Board, leadership and personnel, as well as for its dedication to the Hispanic community. This year, American was ranked number 28, 10 points higher than last year – the top airline in the Top 60 Diversity Elite Directory. In addition, American ranked in the top 15 in two of five categories.

This is the fifth year that American has received the distinction from Hispanic Business, which uses multiple criteria to measure U.S. companies' commitment to diverse hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy, and supplier diversity.

"American Airlines scored high in several of our ranking categories, including supplier diversity, marketing and community outreach, and diversity retention and promotion, and the fact that they climbed 10 points is a significant achievement to be proud of," said Michael Caplinger, Research Supervisor with Hispanic Business Inc. "American continues to work in a positive direction to promote diversity within the organization."

American's Supplier Diversity Program assures the inclusion of minorities, women and LGBT-owned companies in procurement and construction opportunities. Its Diversity Leadership Strategy focuses on establishing best practices in employment and advancement, inclusive work practices, diverse segment marketing, and diversity education.

"Our focus on diversity and inclusion at American Airlines is embedded throughout our organization from the Board of Directors and extending across our team- from the newest hire to the most senior executive," said Lauri Curtis, American's Vice President – Diversity and Leadership Strategies. "Our diversity initiatives play an intricate role in our greater mission of connecting the world, and as we face tough competition in an increasingly globalized market place, our employees' different perspectives are essential to our long-term success. Our customers receive our industry-leading products and services thanks to the dedicated and passionate people who reflect the different communities we serve."

American's Hispanic Latino Employee Resource Group (HLERG)

The Hispanic Latino Employee Resource Group (HLERG), founded in March 1997, is another example of American's commitment to the U.S. Hispanic market. Its mission is to promote an environment that facilitates the hiring, professional development, and promotional opportunities of Hispanic employees, while enhancing American's global competitiveness and its image.

American's Community Involvement and Service

American Airlines has a long history of involvement with, and support for, the Hispanic community across the United States, also partnering with pillar Hispanic community organizations at both the local and national level. Since 1941, when service was first launched to Mexico, American has focused on the U.S. Hispanic market – a market that has been, and continues to be, a thriving opportunity for the company.

American is Latin America's premier airline, offering more flights to more destinations than any other carrier. American's Latin America/Mexico route system encompasses 41 destinations in 17 countries and includes five American Eagle destinations in Mexico.

Well, American had been my Air line of choise and I have traveled with the many time to many countries, but on my last trip to STI they lost three of my bags and they will not pay for the bags.

This has to stop. I don't know if It is American Air Lines or the scumbags at STI.

I would blame the scumbags for bags loos instead of the airline, and prices are going up in all others airlines, thats had been because of the econmics, not because of the airline inself. American Airline is one of the best airline out there, But I do believe it is time for them to start getting new airplanes and junk all the old one, because a year ago I had a really bad experience on my way to DR. and it was due to an old crappy airplane the put 360 people in it. after 2 engine failured and 20,000 feet drop, I could only said that I thanks God we made it. with just 1 engine running.

I've used American several Times as well as Jet blue.

I MUCH prefer Jet Blue. the prices as comparable, often cheaper. The seats are far more roomy and comfortable. Far shorter lines at the check-in counter. All around Jet Blue is by far my choice.

along with Sunshinestates comment. With AA I've had to switch planes because the one that was scheduled to leave on needed repair. A second time we sat at the repair area at the airport (after Boarding) for about an hour while they did a "minor" repair. Late flights due to plane problems. I'm not sure I trust AA old planes.
