New York.– Representative Charles B. Rangel
should either resign or drop his bid for re-election in light of the
ethics charges against him, according to an overwhelming majority of registered voters in Manhattana.
A New York Times poll revealed that a significant reversal in public sentiment toward Rangel, 80, of
Harlem, who is facing a group of feisty challengers in the Democratic
primary on Sept. 14.
Thirty-two percent of Manhattan voters have an unfavorable opinion of Rangel, a five-fold increase from 1990, when The Times last asked

opinion.

This "Charley-boy" is the personification of the "Old School" Democrat and Republican in Congress. They, as a group of politicians, have rocked along for decades, firm in their belief that they could do no wrong in the eyes of their constiturncy, only to finally realize that their shinsnigans over the years have had the effect of disgusting that same constituency to the point of zero tolerance for such.
Over the past 3 years, many of this "Old School" have fallen into disgrace andare gradually being displaced and "put out to pasture".
The old adage of "Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely" is currently in play and there placement process has begun. on that group of "legislators (?)", if they can be called that.
I hold that politicians will never be what they arrogantly call themselves, "Statesmen". They are, for the most part, Actors occupying a position of responsibility to the function of government, but are and have been, failing miserably to do so

cont'd from above.
In their efforts to perpetuate their tenure as "Public Servants", they have manufactured so-called ISSUES that have absolutely no function in good government. They have cajolled the ignorant public into believing that "good government" means having their everyday needs provided to them by that government. I refer to this assinine philosophy as being the "Massa Syndrome" wherein all physical needs of food, lodging, clothing, medical andall the other needs and desires of the public are provided by the "good government".
Such a government only destroys the basic fundamentals of survivorability of the individual and the human race. Such undermines the ability of the individual to survive and thrive against the odds of existance in a harsh environment.
Humans, in the distant past survived because of their strengths, perserverance and fortitude against those odds.

Over the past 100 or so years there has been a trend of political and social philosophy toward creating a type of political and social environment which has had the effect of degenerating the human psyche to that of a submissive and dependent group of individuals responsive to central authority.
We have identified the title of "Communism" and "Socialism" to this type of philosophy andit has gained many adherents in the process.
Certain individuals have embraced this thinking as a way to success in living. They have used this philosophy as a basis of career endeavor and have deigned to use it for their own agrandizement and achievements in the political mileau.
"Charley-boy" is but one of those individuals who has advantaged the system to himself through his charasmatic personality, alluding to one thing while maneuvoring toward another.
All has finally come to rest in his lap.
Think about these people. Are they truly Statesmen, or otherwise?

texasBill, It seems as though every individual, politician in this case, that gain certain level of power feels as though he/she becomes immune from the weight of the law. They undermine the check and balance they themselves have created.
Yes, their social, political, and economical aggrandizement are usually significant but is it worth the upsurge of problems they will encounter?
One great lesson from this sad situation is that the American political system is not the best but it works.
If only the Dominican political system can adapt a fraction of the American system, in terms of check and balance and holding people accountable, we would have a much better country.
