ST. LOUIS.- Eleven men from the Dominican Republic have been indicted in a criminal conspiracy to allegedly bilk online pharmacy customers in the U.S., including one person in eastern Missouri who paid more than $85,000 into the scheme, stltoday.com reports.
The news source said investigators received more than 1,000 complaints from victims who paid thousands of dollars in fake "fines" after they were threatened as part of the enterprise, the indictment alleges.
“After selling drugs to the victims, the accused then allegedly posed as agents of the U.S. government, told victims they were under investigation and threatened their arrest unless they wired payments to individuals in the Dominican Republic,” the Missouri based media outlet sais.
It adds that the 11 men, who are not in custody, were charged Thursday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis with multiple counts of wire fraud and conspiracy.

The three Spaniards, Hugo Leiro Garrido, Monica Pardal Abad and Lorena Barcala Ares, together with Swiss traveler Flavio Luigi Toletti were found to have 35.2 kilos of cocaine in their luggage. Another 3.3 kilos of cocaine were found in the luggage of a Russian couple, Tatjana Greinade and Igor Pravnicenko.
