Santo Domingo.- A recent report by
the US Justice Department National Drugs Intelligence Center reveals that the drug
trafficking rings that transport cocaine from Colombia and Venezuela have
diverted some of their aerial transport routes for transporting cocaine from
the Dominican Republic to the eastern Caribbean, in the area of the British
Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands.
Maritime routes between the
Caribbean coasts of these South American nations and the British and US Virgin
Islands have become substantially activated, because the drugs are taken there
by sea before being transported to the United States by air.
The same report revealed that Puerto
Rico is also the destination for more drugs than in former years. The Dominican
Republic is still the main drug bridge to the neighboring island, but the
Virgin Islands are being used increasingly for this purpose.

What most reasonably well read people know is that the locations of the drugs and the final resting home of the dirty money are not connected ,,So all the money for drugs from mexico or from Colombia is resting in different locations around the world ,,I imagine mainly in places that are developing like las Vegas , Hong Kong and Shanghai and in the caribbean islands .The official banking system has introduced all sorts of controls to try to sort out the dirty money and the clean money but there is a secondary financial market that thrives on dirty money that is in the trillions of dollars every year .Some of it is cleaned at casinos and at race courses or through internet betting and some of it is cleaned through construction ..Many governments are powerless to stop it as the courts have determined that internet gambling , even from small pacific islands or from Indian Reserves is legal . I am sure some of the money reaches the DR...as it does other countries.

Little Dickey although "not as well read or reasonable as you," probably most of what you say is true, however we should not encourage it under the ruse of “well it’s going to go somewhere why not us so we can benefit from it.”
I contend that the short term gain, if any, is not to the general public but to a limited few. However, the long term economic and social degradation far out ways any possible real or imaginary short term benefits!

The cleaning of money ...or money laundering is world wide and the criminals who want to clean the money gained through corruption or tax evasion or through drugs etc ,,choose a country where their dirty money will grow and be safe from economic downturn ,, The question that I have posed before is what happens when a building , for example is found to have been built by dirty money ...Do the authorities sell the asset and use the funds for public purposes or to they return it to the developer or to another country,,,That is the question I posed and to which no one seems to know the answer.

Does anyone know where Lie-onel, Felix Bautista and the rest of the PLD's Political Committee launder their ill-gotten gains?

I wonder if the destruction of Richard Branson's mansion by fire has any connection.
I am not an expert on these matters, but it seems unlikely they would move from such a "flexible" country to British or American territory. Perhaps expanding into these places for a "final rise" after the main laundering in the Dominican Republic, before shipping to the final market in mainland USA and Europe. Maybe shipments direct from the Dominican Republic to mainland USA and Europe are coming under more scrutiny given our plummeting worldwide reputation.
One has to wonder why so many new resorts and hotels are being built here considering occupancy rates of existing facilities are so low. I don't think anyone in their right mind would be anticipating an upsurge in tourism to the Dominican Republic. If Cuba and Jamaica clean up their act they will take significant market share, since Cuba is much closer to the USA and in Jamaica they speak English (sort of) as do many Americans (sort of).
From: United States
actually, Roy, even though Jamaica has an act that really could use some serious sanitary interventions, market share is not the problem. 2 million per year, in an island of 2.6 million, is a better ratio than 3.8 million in a country of 9 million. as it stands, i do not think headcount should be the measuring stick, but quality, and sustainability.

Does anyone believe that we are any less the drug transfer location than we were previously?
OR
Do you believe that the amount of drugs passing through the island is growing daily?
And with its growth the local consumption grows as well.

that´s funny, antonio. i do not see Kingston on the list of the most polluted places on earth. then again, i see Haina, Santo Domingo. before you decide to make disparaging remarks about others, you should do some reading, and research. you should not expose your ignorance to the rest of the world. I would think the main traffickers would move around a lot from one airport/ shipping harbor in one country to the another, as the people they have in their pockets get moved around or caught taking money/helping traffic the drugs or money..
So while taking the time to make new "contacts" (bribing officials) where one has "left" (caught), move to an alternative country until it safe to ship out of the main port again...
We have seen a lot of drugs being caught on the way out of the DR but can't remember any caught on the way in..??? When was the last time they caught a boat or opened a shipping container with drug or money???

Hey ScandiViking ... are not these same US Virgin Islands former Danish territories? Good thing you guys passed them over to the US, wow would you ever have a problem on your hands now ...

Sounds like our corrupt government is charging too much money for them to transport it through our country. Good let the smart traffickers go someplace else now too. Our economy will take a real dive without the drug money flowing through.
