Port-au-Prince.– Haiti and Venezuela rank first and second in corruption and lack of transparency in the Western Hemisphere, according to a Transparency International (TI) annual report released this week.

Worldwide, out of 182 countries, Haiti ranks 175th, Venezuela, 174th (to 172nd, in a 3 way tie with Guinea and Birundi). Regionally, Haiti and Venezuela are followed by Paraguay, ranked 154th, and the Dominican Republic, ranked 129th.

The TI report, Corruptions Perception Index 2011, recalled 20ll as a year of "public outcry at corruption, impunity and economic instability." The organization says that societies want "more transparency and accountability" from their leaders.

These two regional leaders in poor transparency, Haiti and Venezuela, share a partnership that was stressed by Haitian President Michel Martelly on Friday, who in Caracas, Venezuela, said Venezuela is Haiti's number one partner.

The corruption is the major reason why the millions donated worldwide to the country for earthquake relief has not reached the needy.

The article notes the standings on corruption of Haiti and Venezuela of first and second brings credence of the saying of "birds of a feather flock together"

Unfortunately, the people of the DR are on the path to the same destination.

Are we supposed to feel better because we are not the worst?

You are on a boat and it capsizes and you are thrown into the sea.

You can't swim because of the rough seas and you start to drown.

You look around and you see that everyone else who was on the boat is drowning as well.

Are you supposed to feel better because they are drowning also?

It doesn't matter about them.

YOU ARE DROWNING!!!!!!!!!

Zooma here is an example of what you are stating:

Since Felix “Sun Land “ Bautista Lie-onel’s right hand man got the contract to reconstructed the Legislative Place in Puerto Prince, through one of his many shell companies, I am sure that will prevent any other country from challenging Haiti for that distinction.
Haiti

Félix Baptist: the domains of the Creole Midas reach Panama and Haiti

He is the “owner” of a mining company in Panama, and construction companies in Haiti
The contracts awarded to Mr. Bautista’s companies have a total of $ 208 million value: 33.7 million for the Legislative Palace, which will be built by the Hadom Company and 174.3 million for dwellings at Fort National to be built by Rofi construction.

Wait, how is it that Venezuela is second and they're doing better than the DR? At least Chavez does programs for the poor, and the oil revenue, at least most of it, goes back to the population. In the DR, we buy oil from Venezuela who has an agreement with the DR to sell it cheaper, and what Leonel does is he still sells gas expensive like hell and takes the discounted money for himself and his pals.
Anyways, IDk how to solve Haiti's problem... they destroy everything they touch.. maybe is not their fault, but that's how they are.. They deforested their country and then tried to do the same in Pedernales (anybody remembers that?)... I feel bad for them, but until they also realize that they need to change, there's not going to be much change. Oh well

Should have hire Kissinger and Associates to assist the NGO Transparency International to rate the D.R. and put in a commission dependent on our rating dropping to among the 100 lowest... No pay offs - just lavish dinners and meeting and forums in five star resorts around the world, maybe a Rolex Presidential for the attendees from TI. Plenty of funds for 'contingencies like some one needing a new Audi. Who the f care's where we rate - what needs to be done is clean up corruption from the top down - set an example for the lower classes. The major difference right now is some have the opportunity to profit from their positions and some haven't had a chance (yet).

It's been 207 years since they became free from the Frenchies, and after ruling the whole island for 22 years, and Billions of foreign aid we're still waiting.

My sincere wish is that they actually turn that country around 10 times better than the DR, so that we can unload some of your 2 million compatriot roaming the streets of DR.

BlogHaHaHa,

Who says the aid payments have not been made? Is it the corrupt Haitian officials that have diverted the money into their own pockets?

Haiti's corruption rating in this article is not based on the negative perceptions of Haiti held by the international community. It is based on the views of Haitians in Haiti themselves.

What is Haiti fatigue? The UN is aware that Haiti is not the only country in desperate need of aid. Perhaps they are pissed off by the government's gross exaggeration of the fatality figures for the earthquake?

So voodoo is not practiced in Haiti - it's all a Hollywood myth? Right!

Blacks are not universally respected? Unfortunately true. Wasn't it Haiti that expelled most of the whites, then slaughtered the rest? A bit of a case of "the pot calling the kettle black" if you ask me!

The reality is; Haiti was fu@ked by Haitians long ago, not by the earthquake or the international community.

Haitians kicked out the French not because they were white but bloodthirsty criminal vampires who killed more than 200000 Haitians ( men, women, old, children ) between 1791 and 1804 ( not counting the millions they killed between 1697 and 1804) . Yet some people are still crying about the 4000 French killed (unfortunately) by Dessalines and his soldiers (blacks and mulattoes) in 1804.

Mugabe kicked out some Europeans in Zimbabwe because they did not want to share with the natives (blacks), were racists against them and had all the wealth in the country.

In Australia , Asians are assaulted in the streets only because they're Asians. In Russia if you're colored you may finish in a coffin (beat to death, stabbed) due to all the neonazis.

Any oppressor will have his @ss kicked history taught us that lesson. US in Vietnam is a good example . Haitians were the 1st to show the path and are the heroes among the heroes for all revolutionary movements and oppressed people.

The most corrupt world in this world and part of this hemisphere are the USA themselves , their national Debt represent almost 100 % of their GDP and yet they dare call people corrupted with all the evil they're doing all over the world.

A corrupt country built upon the blood of the native indians, the white slaves (indentured servants), the millions of African slaves, the exploited poor European immigrants ( Italians, Irish, Polish etc), and all the commodities they steal all over the world by force (Irak)

A country whose God is wealth (Money, Oil, Gold, Diamonds, etc ) , who own around 900 military bases all over the world to fullfill his bloodthirsty capitalist agenda can't call anyone " CORRUPT".

Do you acknowledge that Saddam was a crazy man but in no way an extremist ? Yet United States lied saying that he had weapon of massive destruction ?

Same example with Khaddafi, in no way he was an extremist (i.e call girls parties with Berlusconi) but yet France and UK ( with US help in weapons) attacked him and helped to kill him. Because we all know that Libyans rebels could do nothing alone.

Example 1 & 2, reflect what I'm saying most corrupt people on earth. Ready to lie ( did we find Saddam Weapons ?) and kill innocents (collateral damages) to reach commodities : OIL and others.

Saddam and Khaddafi controlled the extremists group in Irak and Libya, like Mubarak in Egypt or Ben Ali in Tunisia. You will see that in all these countries we may have extremists leading the country and now it's gonna be really hot...Unfortunately...Who put them in place at the end...US FOREIGN POLICY.

I still believe Saddam Husein may have had WMDs since he had plenty of time and money to hide them, before he allowed UN inspectors in. Regardless his human rights abuses were intolerable..

For your information, Australian Aborigines were almost extinct before British settlement. Their numbers have increased many times since they "stole" their land. Despite representing less than 5% of the population, they still own over 35% of the land, and over 65% have never worked a day in their life, living off taxpayers. Had Australia been colonized by the Spanish or the French, the indigenous populations would have been wiped out, as they were in Hispaniola.

As a Haitian, how can you dare to mention murder genocide and the thief of land? What spectacular hypocrisy!

Riom,
Black women are the same color "inside" as white women. There are many beautiful, clever, successful, and humane, polite people of African descent, contributing to humanity. logHaHaHa is obviously not one of them, and has no right to attempt to identify with those who are, just because as he claims, he is a black Haitian.
He is scouring the Internet attempting to find good things to say about his failed state, but can only find acts of charity by foreigners, while spewing forth his vile, xenophobic venom. Pathetic!
Oprah Winfrey may justifiably be proud of her history. However regarding Haiti's history, all Haitians should hang their heads in shame.

Haiti's history is not world-famous.
It is world-infamous.
In it's heyday it contributed to the wealth of France. Now it is a black-hole for the world's charity. Any Dominican who brags of their history must be an ignoramus, psychopath or both.

War BlogHaHaHa? What war? All you've done so far is shoot your mouth off and shoot yourself in the foot. I'm not trying to destroy Haiti - you and your kind have done and continue to do a far better job at that than I could ever hope too.
Well now that Utopia is rocketing ahead, I guess you'll be leaving the Dominican Republic to bask in the glory of your wonderful country, then?

BlogHaHaHa,

Did you see in the news today (probably not) that the boring, insignificant (according to you) country of Australia has just won another Nobel Prize. It is Australia's 11th. More than half where for Medicine, something your sick nation needs most (not palaces and stadiums). You probably don't even know what the Nobel Prize is, since your "superior" country of Haiti has not, in it's 110-year history, won it once.

We believe in science. You believe in Voodoo. Pathetic!

According to Wikipedia:
"In 1925, Haiti was lush, with 60% of its original forest covering the lands and mountainous regions. Since then, the population has cut down an estimated 98% of its original forest cover for use as fuel for cookstoves, and in the process has destroyed fertile farmland soils, contributing to desertification"

Gee, BlogHaHaHa and his forward-thinking countrymen sure have their priorities worked out - don't plant trees, (that's what stupid Australians do). Build stadiums with foreign charity!

More bull@hit from BlogHaHaHa

As I correctly stated, Haiti has never won a Nobel Prize. Franck Étienne was a candidate, not a winner. You are wrong again.

So sport is moving Haiti forward? Ha, ha, funny ha! Haiti has never won a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games. Australia has won 136. So who's ass you gonna kick? Perhaps if they introduced a jerk-off event you might get a medal. I see you've started training for it already!

Yes, self-sufficient countries need a seat of government. Your beggar country doesn't even have a sewerage system or toilets, hence it has a Cholera epidemic. Nowhere to put your excrement? Is that why you post it here?

So you're crap at sport because you're a young country? Haiti, was colonized 500 years ago. Australia, was colonized 200 year ago.

So Australians are immigrants of descendents of immigrants? Most are, yes. So what? Are you Taino?

So we keep blacks down in sport? Boxing and track-and-field? Lionel Rose was not white but still became Australian and World Champion at boxing and was also awarded an OBE. Cathy Freeman broke more world sprinting records than you've had hot dinners - and she's not white. Now what world-class athletes has Haiti produced? Any?

Now in your convoluted lack-of-logic, kindly explain how USA only exists thanks to Haiti. So you can claim credit for Voyager 1? You are overdue for your medication!

BlobBlaBlaBla,

Interesting you dare to mention Japan. Very good to compare your earthquake, followed by massive looting, exploitation and corruption, with Japan's earthquake and tsunami, followed by no looting and massive acts of bravery and humanity. Your kind could sure learn from Japan, if you were educatable.

When are you gonna get anything right? I've proved you wrong in everything so far. Don't you think it high time you crawled back into your hole little man? Take an enema - then you can sleep in a matchbox.

BlogHaHaHa,

The Japanese did not loot because of two things you will never have, and that's honesty and respect.

You won't "jump on the bandwagon"? That's a laugh - your whole country is on the bandwagon, the "oh poor me, it;s not my fault" bandwagon. Well it is your fault. The overpopulation, the destruction of the environment, the corruption, the crime, the drugs, the superstition, the xenophobia, and the ingratitude to the rest of the world, especially USA and the Dominican Republic.

The destruction, death and injury toll from the earthquake was due to your total lack of building standards, in a very seismically-active zone. Your Cholera epidemic was due to your fifthly lack of hygiene. The place was a slum even before these events. Haiti has been going downhill ever since the French pulled out. Given 10,000 years you won't catch up to Japan, USA or Australia. You'll sink below Zimbabwe!

You didn't finish your sentence - "Haiti Cherie, For ever a @hit-hole"!

"Like they say you cannot always have it all
Some are situated in spots where there s oil
Some on spots where there are diamonds
Some gold
Some Beaustiful sunshine and palm trees or what ever
And some with Kangaroos "

Well Australia has all of the above and Haiti has none! You see it takes work and intelligence to discover minerals, then to mine and process them. Haitians have neither so they produce nothing. As far as flora is concerned, Haitians have destroyed most of theirs. Fauna (not including rats, mice and other vermin) Haiti has virtually none. Australia has more native animal species than Haiti has toilets. Preservation of the environment takes common sense. Totally uncommon in some countries.
Spectacular ignorance!

Hint for today:

Monotonous, incessant and mindless cutting and pasting will not improve your English skills, cure your severe knowledge deficiency, or help your pathetic and desperate argument.

So they think there may be gold in Haiti - wow! Every country has some. But Haiti does not have any proven ore-bodies of a viable grade. Nor does it have adequate infrastructure, or a reliable, skilled, honest workforce, stability, security or an environment that would attract the substantial foreign investment required. Haiti can only attract sympathy and charity.

I agree that Haitians have done nothing and they've destroyed everything in their country, and then they want to go to the DR and do it again. But you are such an insensitive little bastard. I bet you think you can enslave the Haitians, don't you?
You're right, Australia has a lot and Australia is beautiful, but not thanks to you! Because you're just as ignorant as all the Haitians (like you said before). The only reason you're "australian" is because your dominican parents, or maybe haitians.. who knows, immigrated to Australia and gave birth to you there. If they are legal or not, I don't know, all I know is that you're just taking and taking, I bet you do NOTHING to give back to your society in Australia. See, the difference between a first-world minded person and a third-world minded person is that a 1st world minded person takes from society, but finds a way to give back. A 3rd world person only thinks about taking and devastating,.. cont

That's why Haitians destroyed Haiti and there's nothing there, because everyone took and took and nobody gave back, and now it's a little shit-hole no one wants to be in, not even the Haitians, and that's why the DR is going in the same directions, and not even the Dominicans want to be there! Maybe we haven't devastated our country, because there's still people there that want to give back, that want to preserve, but our politicians are shit and all they want is money in their pockets. I am pretty sure you are one of those that thinks you're privileged enough to live in Australia and you can take and take... well regardless of where you're from you owe something to society, and you better start thinking about ways that you can give back. I know you aren't very smart by all the comments you write, but there must be something for you... something that doesn't require to have a brain maybe.

She'll be out of there before you can shit on yourself again - as soon as she's impressed her American audience what a charitable, compassionate person she is.

A new mosque?

Wow, that's really what you need! Hospitals, schools, water, electricity and a sewerage system - that can wait. Well you have a lawless country now - maybe Sharia Law will be a change for the better. Will solve the overpopulation problem - the thieving men bleeding to death from having their hands chopped off, and the women stoned to death for you-know-what. Just keep it on your side of the boarder if you don't mind. DR has a small but significant Jewish population that have contributed greatly to this country.

You don't seem to understand the difference between important and famous. Barack Obama is important. Popular TV hostesses are not important. They are famous. Opera's visit was a controlled publicity event, not a diplomatic mission. Her team needs to ensure the only images that reach the intellectually-challenged American housewives are as planned and carefully edited, not candid. Haiti is a magnet for wealthy people who want to look kind.

I agree 100%

But then again playing victim, pointing fingers, living in the past is the best way to draw attention.

What ever happened to finding solutions, it beats being part of the problem, taking one step forward then taking two steps back.

Kiskeyaman ... it is true that it will take another 40 years or so for the current generation of dominican versus haitian culture of hatred to disappear, because the world will have to patiently wait while old age catches up with the haters of our time ...

but that said, at least two generations of new human beings can be educated and encouraged and assisted to make positive change ... and the only way that ever happens is when there is an economy where people can work and survive and that means business ... trade ...

the island has so much to offer the world besides corruption drugs and heartache ... it has every right to be a self governing success story where two nations living side by side can benefit by the advantages each has to offer ... creative positive no slack approach is the only hope ... and thus I end my sermon this day ...
