Sydney.– Sydney has seen in the New Year with a spectacular multi-million dollar fireworks display, but Samoa and Tokelau were first to toast in 2012 after skipping a day by jumping west across the international dateline.

In New Zealand, heavy rain meant celebrations in Palmerston North, Mount Maunganui, Rotorua and on Wellington's waterfront were called off, but a fireworks display off Auckland's Sky Tower started at midnigh.

I'm a patriotic Melnournian but have to admit Sydney's NYE fireworks are a better, probably the best in the world. It is hard to appreciate the size of the display unless you know this bridge. Check it out.
