Washington.– On behalf of President Barack Obama and the people of the United States, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
congratulated the people of the Dominican Republic on the 167th anniversary of the country's national independence this February 27.
"Our countries have a strong foundation based on mutual interests and
values. We are working through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative
to reduce illicit trafficking, advance regional security and promote
justice," Clinton said in a press statement released by the U.S. Department of State.
"We are strengthening democracy, spreading opportunity and
promoting prosperity throughout the Americas through our Pathways to
Prosperity Initiative. And we are expanding opportunity and trade with
the Central America-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement," she added.
Our two countries share ties of friendship, family and culture, Clinton said. "As
you celebrate on this anniversary of your independence, know that the
United States stands with you and sends best wishes to all Dominicans
for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead."

Just a thought: about 6 years ago to avoid lay-offs my union #612 California School employees association all voted to freeze our 6% cost of living raise and took a 3% cut in current wages to spare our fellow union members the agony of pink slips. At the time the teachers union supported us...that is until there contract expired....stabbed in the back.

Just look around and see for yourself that we are not fully Dominicans anymore. Everyone looks the same as the other side of the island. So, we are not so different anymore. It's not the same DR from 30 years ago.
So, in the eyes of the international community (Europe, ASIA, U.S, etc) the big players we are all the same people not matter what? We all look the same after all. See the point.
So, I don't understand why so much noice about the independence if our politicians are doing nothing about it. Our own ppl is doing nothing about it, but making it worse. Having babies with those ppl. Bringing more uneducated individuals and less prosperity for both sides.
More corrupt, less intellectual, wild and savage. Otherwise, look to both ends. Tell me what do you see? Look at Haiti and then look at DR from the outside....the same ppl, same corrupt governments, same degenerative mindset. It's time to change it all.
