New York.– The U.S. government is spending more than $1.5 billion each year to jail illegal immigrants throughout the country, according to a new report by the investigative arm of Congress.

Over the past five fiscal years the number of incarcerated non-U.S. citizens in federal prisons has increased by 4,000, to about 55,000. In state prisons, the criminal alien population has increased by about 75,000 people, for a total of 296,000.

The report, issued this week by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), found that nearly 70 percent of the criminal aliens in federal prisons, and 66 percent in state prisons, were born in Mexico. About five percent are from the Dominican Republic, and five percent from Colombia.

The document reads that about 50 percent of the criminal aliens in the study population were arrested at least once for either assault, homicide, robbery, a sex offense, or kidnapping. About half of the criminal aliens were arrested at least once for a drug violation.

If she was I would be very proud of her, Haitian women are very BRAVE, but my family are from Santiago my friend.

You're the one denying your country like if it was a crime, or they are less than human, be proud like private Cantave, but balanced like superlover.

Sad record.

30,000 criminals, that's more than here in DR, about 15,000.

Not to mention other countries.

Then you wonder why Domiicans can't get a visa..

The people that go to the US think that it is an easy place to make a lot of money. Some find you have to work hard to get it. Others find it is to hard so they resort to crime.

its as it says in the bible, the path to hell is nice and wide, the path to heaven is very narrow because not many people choose that path,

people love the easy way whenever they think they can get away with whatever they do, its like dominican women nowadays, they dont know what it is to work with their hands and mind anymore, nowadays they only use everything from under the waist to the knee, and they can work it really good. thats another reason why theres so much corruption nowadays and why every dominican's dream is to have a jeepeta money nice house and drive around looking for women all day long.

Everyone travels illegally to other countries, there are some Haitians that travel to DR and Bahamas illegally and some Dominicans travel to other islands especially Puerto Rico illegally. If you go to work hard and make money there's no problem but if you go to start trouble then that's where the problem begins.

@HaitianDominicanPuertorican

"some Haitians that travel to DR and Bahamas illegally" and "some Dominicans travel to other islands especially Puerto Rico illegally"

"Some" is a BIG understatement, especially when it comes to Haitians coming into the DR.

That's a pretty low percentage compared to other groups.

@lovingit: Yea alot of Haitians go to DR, althouh im not too familiar with that, I have just heard about the stories. Im more familiar with the dominicans that come to PR and alot of them use stolen identity from Puerto Rican citizens to try to get into the mainland, we have a big problem with that since there are thousands and thousands of illegals who come from DR. Regardless, everyone trying to get a better life so cant blame the Haitians or your fellow Dominicans for trying to migrate for better opportunities to feed their families?
