Santo Domingo.– A Jetblue flight from New York to Santo Domingo with 150 passengers was enroute at FL350 about 160nm south of New York about 45 minutes into the flight when the captain got aware of a passenger who insisted of being entitled to use a cabin crew seat in the cabin.

Carlos Rodriguez, 30, got an employee pass from a pal who works for JetBlue, but he was told at the gate that the flight was sold out.

The captain decided to return to New York where the aircraft landed safely about 2.5 hours after departure. The unruly passenger was offloaded.

The aircraft departed again and reached Santo Domingo with a delay of 4.5 hours.

How did he get through security without a boarding pass?
How did get on the plane and where did he sit during takeoff?
Seems the issue of his presence on the flight without proper ticketing needs a review?

DT you need to improve story editing as this one as published does not make sense.

I suggest the article should read: Unruly passenger forces JetBlue flight enroute from New York to Santo Domingo to return. A passenger was allowed to board an ovesold flight using the employee pass of a friend. 45 minutes into the flight he was not happy with his assigned seat and insisted he was entitled to cabin crew seating. He was denied a change and became unruly with the cabin crew. The flight captain was advised and decided to return the aircraft to New York where the passenger was removed. The flight departed again and reached Santo Domingo with a delay of 4.5 hours.

zooma - you are so right! Whoever translates and approves getting this into print in English needs to be replaced. The translation into English is soooooo terrible. There have been so many articles in DT which have never made any sense.

Yet another guy helping our image internationally.

@Zooma et al,

I understand your concerns about translation. However, DT provides great service to all of us abroad and I, for one, am very grateful for this free and valuable service. With limited resources, they are doing a great job, and we could use our wit to fill in blanks where they may fall short, such as you have ably done above.

I am not trying to be critical of yourself, or diminish your concern, it's just that I understand that all publishers are facing some very challenging decisions regarding economics, and DT is not exempted. I know of monthly industry magazines that have been for years and now are charging subscription rates, even though they are only a thin shadow of former selves.

It would be interesting to see some follow-up on this story. I'd like to see him sued, then jailed for non-payment, and his friend who gave him the pass, sacked. Obtaining benefit by deception is bad enough, but demanding it and f*****g-around everyone else on the flight is despicable. Pity they was not a football team about to miss an important practice game, and use his head a ball instead!

Whoever gave this person an employee seat should lose their job. This clown should be forced to pay the damages from lost fuel and flight crew time as well as reimburse the other passengers for their delay of the flight. If he can't pay let him rot in jail for 20 years and see how he likes it.

The Aviation Herald alleges the passenger was also a TSA screener.

If this is fact, it makes you wonder who is watching the watchman !!!!

Another eager beaver impatient to leave the gulag to the point he wants a crew seat. Next we will see people insisting on the lavatory seat simply to escape.

@cuba,

They should all pass go, not collect $200.00, and either go straight to Cuba, Afghanistan or Pakistan, then all would be well in the world and we should all be happy, just like Cuban and Pakistanis.

This is one reason I hate flying out of JFK to the DR!! Always you get some people on the flight that believe they're in a publico or a guagua......... Basically they don't give a dam once they are on the flight! Last time I flew from JFK, this guy was asking me for my pen, at least that's what I thought, for the customs papers.... Dumb ass wanted me to fill out his documents b/c he could not read or write....... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa dios

HateitorLOVEIT,
Fill our his forms for him?
I have been asked to "help" a student with their English homework. "Help" means doing their homework for them while they go out to play. They didn't ask a second time - probably got a bad grade to my deliberately wrong or cheeky answers - perhaps a lesson worth more than the actual English lesson?
Some Dominicans wonder why their counterfeit qualifications are not recognized in other countries. Duh!!
