New York.– A Dominican citizen who removed his own fingerprints in an attempt to hide his identity has been sentenced to two years in prison for re-entering the U.S. illegally following his deportation.

U.S. District Court Judge Mary Lisi also ordered Robert Cordero-Luciano, 27, back to the Dominican Republic after he completes his sentence, which was 22 months shorter than prosecutors had requested.

Cordero was arrested last summer when police say he tried to get a Rhode Island driver's license using forged documents. Police noticed his fingerprints had been "mutilated."
