BASSETERRE, St Kitts.- Haiti's President Michel Martelly marked his
inaugural appearance at a meeting of Caribbean Community (Caricom)
leaders by urging them to remove the visa requirements for Haitians as
well as adopt French as an official language of the 15-member regional
integration grouping.
Addressing the ceremonial opening of the 32nd Caricom Summit in St Kitts, Martelly said that the visa situation was "close to my
heart" and that he hoped his regional colleagues would move
expeditiously to remove the requirements needed for his nationals.
The Haitian president also recalled that during
the Third Caricom-Cuba conference held in Havana in September 2010 a
decision was taken to create a Haitian-CARICOM Fund to help rebuild the
country following the devastation caused by the earthquake that killed nearly 300,000 people.

As I've been saying all too often, Haiti needs Visa options for its huge population. But instead of insisting that neigboring nations take up the slack-they have already received more Haitians than they want!-Martelly needs to internationalize the effort and boarden it to stress the Francophone Community of Nations. Secondly, he should engage efforts to make French THE language of government and education in Haiti.

Mickey knows this is not going to happen. The visa requirement for Haitians to travel to other countries in the region is simply a formality for any Haitian who can afford the air fair in the case of DR the cost of the Terra Bus ticket is never denied a visa. Bahamas with the most strict immigration laws in the region is full of Haitians both legal and illegal. A visa requirement never stop any Dominican to make a yola run for PR let's get real.
As far as adopting French well english is the int' l language of business.

Pat,
While its true that getting Visas for Haiti ain't going to be easy, it is the fastest and most uplifting option available to help the attempted modernization of Haiti. Every Haitian family that is able to get one or more individuals into a First World nation is a huge pay-back for the Haitian modernization scheme. The Haitians living aboard provide an opportunity to support the ones left behind, and at a minimum don't eat up the meager investment streams available to Haiti. Unfortunately for Haiti, this drive to encourage Visas for Haitians should have been heavily promoted at the earliest moment following the devastating earthquakes of last year. Much time and international Goodwill were lost. With major tragedies occurring in several nations since, Haiti is no longer the urgent international focus it was in early 2010.
As for French over Creole, the former allows a wealth of knowledge and interconnection with the outside world that the latter does not.

Here's a suggestion. Cuba has one of the lowest, if not the lowest, population growth rate in all of Latin America. Why not allow several hundred thousand Haitians to move their, with the international community providing Cuba with assistance for re-settling Haitians? Cubans have been receiving Haitians since Colonial times, with many Cubans actually descendants of Haitian laborers that came over after the Haitian Revolution. Even the Castro brothers have a Haitian connection given that their father owned 2000 hectares of land and managed another 9,000 for two Cuban Generals( that's over 25,000 acres of land!) and a significant part of the labor force consisted of Jamaican and Haitian laborers on what amounted to a Batey. Many tens of thousands of Haitians living in Cuba for over 20 years were returned, some forcibly, back to Haiti under the dictator Batista. Some claim that this event was one of the factors that would lead Trujillo to his criminal action as many

now Cuban-Haitians flooded the Haitian labor pool without enough aggregate demand for their labor input. Knowing some Cuban Spanish, if not fluent, many sort to make their way into the DR with its greater chance of finding some work.

Martelly CARICOM must obtain visas for the absence of its people if the index human Haiti is at least 0.6. but in exchange for waiting Martelly should try to negotiate scholarships for Haitian students who want to specialize in certain occupations. or Martelly can ask caricom, after 15 years haiti don't have any visa to come to the countries of the caricom.
From: Haiti
3)The second thing I want to say is that I understand that members of CARICOM are afraid because they think the Haitians can invaded their countries.
But I can also understand Martelly and some haitians.
Why those other countries of caricom can move freely and it seems to me without visa to come to Haiti while Haitians can not move freely in those countries?
It's not fair.
Contrary to what some say here, this is not a problem of huge population but an economic problem.
I think that first of all Martelly must ask to remove the CARICOM visas for Haitians who are members of directors(administration's member) of a company
or a profit association.
That way one side we're going managed to ensure that all who are in informal business are now in the formal business. And everyone can succeed in becoming one day a member of the administration of their company or an association for profit!

Castro re-visits his earliest years of life and his journey from rural Biran to Havana. The Nationalization of Labor Act was the means by which Cuba forced out tens of thousands of Haitian during the 20th century.
"The events of the 1930s pose an intriguing question. During the first three decades of the twentieth century, as many as 600,000 Haitian and British West Indian workers migrated to the neighboring island of Cuba.(4) Most of these antillanos arrived as agricultural wage laborers, ready to cut cane in the sugar fields blanketing the easternmost provinces of Camaguey and Oriente; tens of thousands of them - Haitians and British West Indians together - still resided in Cuba during the mid 1930s. Clearly, however, Cuban authorities singled out the Haitian community for forced repatriation. In addition to the 1937 deportations, around 8,000 haitianos were expelled i

And everyone can succeed in becoming one day a member of the administration of their company or an association for profit!
believe me haiti is a huge market not only for the caricom countries but even FOR usa and DR. Martelly and his TEAM know that.
Otherwise the president will not make its requests.
we will follow the rest of the situation in the days or year which come!
I ANSWER YOU
ATABEY2I do not see why hundreds of thousands of Haitians must to leave for Cuba, why not try invest that money in Haiti for the Haitian is in his country of preference?
if what you tell is realise, there will be more and more people illegal, which will invade other nations. The problem is primarily economic. and we must focus primarily on Haiti. Without the economic problem haitians have not interest in living elsewhere!
I love the people, the Cubans really have the heart on the hand. Of course there are idiots everywhere, but they made a lot of things for the haitians.
and we try to help this country to get out in the unfair embargo.
they gave scholarships to Haitian students. many Cuban doctors have helped us for years and continue to help us.
Even if our neighbor the usa does not like our link with cuba we continue.
a lot of cuban people come here to show their culture.
Frankly, I have already met with Cuban, and they are really nice. they gave me a taste for learn Spanish. I think we should do more of the trade with Cuba. Now there are coming more and more in haiti, to live or to teach spanish.
what i can to tell you the onely country who have a batey is the DR.
Cuban-Haitian love haitian people, a lot of them speak creole. A lot of black cuban have haitian blood and some mixed cuban have got blood haitian too.
the cuban people and the haitian people are really brothers. The cuban people help a lot haitians. they give us
"now Cuban-Haitians flooded the Haitian labor pool without enough aggregate demand for their labor input. Knowing some Cuban Spanish, if not fluent, many sort to make their way into the DR with its greater chance of finding some work."
What the connection between this sentence and the article?
"Thus taken, the Castro brothers would make a great amend for that historical wrong done by the dictator Batista. "
can you details your thought, i don't understand what you mean?
Foreign aid must not be in the form previously given because most of it will only disappear into the hands of the corrupt.
Martelly is engaging in wishful thinking if he expects neighboring countries to throw open their borders to the people of a country that has been devastated by natural and human inflicted disasters. Too many would flee and replicate the devastation where they went because these neighboring countries are themselves borderline dependent on external help.
Roll up your sleeve Mr. Martelly and start moving some of the ruble. Lead by example if you want to mobilize the population to help itself.
what devastation do you talk?
I am agree, It's time to act, but with the deputies who blocked him we can wait long time to see Martelly's acts
Do you really think Cubans love Haitians that much to believe that Cubans will be willing to open the doors to poor illiterate haitian masses?
branlette intellectuelle!
Read, Fidel Castro: My Life A Spoken Autobiography by Fidel Castro and Ignacio Ramonet, 2006.

Read the book. It's available in French but I doubt in Creole!
Yes, the article states several reasons why the Haitians were expelled more so than The other West Indians and Jamaicans in particular.
That;s Atabey MO. Read something and take one line that suits his agenda and parade it on this site for the handful of simpletons that take him seriously.

BTW, I gave the opening paragraph to the article. But why waste time on the Ignorant one and his lack of comprehension skills?
Why not invest your time O'Ignorant One for planning those coming drinks and "extra-curricula stuff" you and "He Who Should Not Be Named" are contemplating in PP!! Hey, it's a free country and what's private is private.

Do yourself a favor and read the article before commenting on its deficiencies. Idiots.
Don't act as a little! you can't force any people to read what you have in your heart.
and with that to manipulate your own countrymen. it's a shameful for you
look at to you in a mirror, mr ATABEY, if you believe all you read it's you have a lost mind. You have a lot of blood of HITLER.

I do not care of your article, try to think positive things.
Else you will become mad, and you will end up back in the army of the Nazis.
Be positive in your life is good advice that I give you. Do not be swayed by the army of evil!
Look for the title:

CLOSE YOUR MOUTH. ignorant boy
for the other people in the web.
have you heard the news? A HAITIAN STUDENTS WERE raped, robbed and murdered by two Dominicans?
what `s going to happen is that the Haitian students are aware that` they are not welcome in dr and that is better to modern universities in Haiti that we are not cowardly assassins.
you are sure, you are half haitian, so why in your previous sentence i see a lot of negative criticism to haiti. You hate your side haitian. i don`t tell all dominican people nazi but unhappy you have a lot of dominican who have a lot of negative thought like atabey. a lot of haitian will die in dr because is a country who hate haiti and haitian people. but happy not all dominican. where are you born adjura? IF IS TRUE YOU ARE HALF HAITIAN. I HAVE A LOT OF DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT. BUT EVEN IF THE DAUGHTER WAS NOT PRETTY IS NOT GOOD FOR THE DR TO HAVE THE REPUTATION TO KILL THE FOREIGNS. A LOT OF STUDents OF HAITI WHO STUDIES to DR have FEAR
Funny. When I am in haiti friends make fun of my lastname when in d r friends. Make fun of of my dominican lastname since my spanich sucks...however I love both
???? yes but you see a strange play. let me tell you i think you don't know haiti. you know only petionville, carrefour but i counsel you to go to see ile a vache, ile de la tortue, ile de la gonave, jacmel have got a project for the tuarism in this moment. Haiti is not onely port au prince wake up man
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ARE not a paradise, in the area the most people who leave their countries are haitian people and dominican people..
yes some haitians are frustred to see port au prince in this state but whe don't have the hastred you feel in you heart. you are dominican and not half haitian. you have a lot of RACIST mulato haitian but all mulato haitian are not racist.
cool i am happy you going to visit ile de la tortue, you should visited also ile à vache, la gonave. port de paix. also Jacmel. And i think if i was half dominican and half haitian, my work will to help the two nations to know themselves.
Arcangel96
you are right, i want just add with at your last sentence that the keys for Haitian success is foreign investment but also the haitian's diaspora investment too. because the haitian's diaspora have some billion which sleep in the foreign bank
Is it the case that the Haitian "diaspora" won't invest, because of fear of some kind of political, physical and/or economical retribution by certain sectors of Haitian society? In your opinion, where do you think their hesitation comes from?
there is a safety issue. A problem of policy that is afraid of the diaspora to invest in the country. But with the arrival of Martelly `I think that the diaspora will regain the confidence that will enable them to invest in the country.
the second problem it `s the problem IS THE BUSINESS MAN in Haiti are not visions AND THEY are afraid of international investors and those of the Haitian diaspora. THE BUSINESS MeN IN HAITI
2The men of business in Haiti, importing too many products that haiti can create. they are afraid of the diaspora that has a modern and effective way to haiti.
You welcome
