Ignorant !!!

You should visit africa : how do you call a black ebony man / woman with "white features" ?

Angola (was part of Congo kingdom) was colonized by portuguese , like they colonized congo or Cabo Verde

The fulanis,The Haussas, the wolofs, the bambaras, the somalians, the mandigas etc etc to name but a few have in majority what you call "white features" and they're black.

Northern Africans, Somalia, Sudan, Egypt, etc, have really narrow features and are very black (Iman). I knew Miss DR was a loser when I saw her fake nose and features. I have seen girls in the DR like the current Miss Universe all over the country. Dominicans need to realize that black can be beautiful.

I know very well the DR and Cuba. I went to PR too.

I know Haitians and Jamaican women ( Naomi Campbell was hot few yrs ago).

Dominicans girls are the most beautiful (my own opinion) of this area, even if caribbean women are generally speaking really beautiful.

But the most beaufiful women i have seen in my life are in Africa : no contest possible

I visited north Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) , subsahara africa (Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast), I know somalians, ethiopians, djiboutians, tanzanians, soudanese, egyptians

PS: Last DR miss looks like a Trans , it's a shame when you see all the morenas beauties in that countriy : the like of Ruth Ocumarez

Years back nobody would have noticed her, no even her friends and family. They would have chosen somebody that looks like a white barbie doll. No counter arguments please. @ HateitorLOVEIT. I hear you man. We need to stop worshipping whiteness. I am brown but I have brothers and sisters and relatives that are white because Spanish or European blood. I know there is racism in my family. I have known it all of my life. My grandmother used to take her favorite grand-daughters around town to show them off. She decorated herself with the prettiest "white girls" in the family. Those girls were messed up for life. They were basically "pets" to their own grandma, my grandma.... She was such a bytch. Que en paz descanse. I guess! LOL. I have no respect for such racist crap. I don't care if people say I am going out with a güera or I am going out with a negra sabrosa. The problem is when people think that one is better than the other, especially in beauty contests... @RBenito. Man!! Samy Sossa is a dude, dude! I could have said Jesse Owens myself.... Hahahahahaha. SAO PAULO (AP) — Newly crowned Miss Universe Leila Lopes wants to help her native Angola further escape a history of war and impoverishment and said she plans to focus on combating HIV around the globe.
Speaking in a timid voice early Tuesday shortly after taking the crown in South America's largest city, the 25-year-old Lopes said that "as Miss Angola I've already done a lot to help my people."
"I've worked with various social causes

I work with poor kids, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs," she said. "I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more."
Responding to questions, Lopes said that she has never had cosmetic surgery of any kind and that her three tips for beauty were to get a lot of sleep, use sunblock even when it's not sunny and to drink lots of water. She said her smile was her best weapon in the competition.
Asked about racism in light of the fact that she's one of the few blacks ever crowned Miss Universe, Lopes said that "any racist needs to seek help."
"It's not normal in the 21st century to think in that way."
Lopes is Angola's first winner. She beat out 88 other competitors to win the title during the 60th anniversary of the world's biggest beauty pageant. She replaces last year's winner, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

She deftly handled the interview question that is asked of the remaining top five contestants. She was questioned about what physical trait she would change if she could.
"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," Lopes said. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life."

All those Americans who pay billions to go under the knife should listen!

"mulatto" LOL. The writer of this article is a moron, and just show how backwards and "third world" the Dominican Republic still is to the Anglo readers. Most of the readers on this website are from first world, Anglo-America countries, who don't use racial terms like "mulatto".

@cheflord522, I don't think the Dominican media is as politically correct as the United States, that is why they wrote this article using the word "mulatto".

Base on my experience, most Dominican people don't even use the word "mulatto", so i think the DR media is to blame here not the Dominican people.

I didn't presume it was a Dominican poster, in fact I know basically where Nehesy stands on certain issues. REGARDLESS of who made the first comment, the rest of the comment reflect the need and interest that exist concerning such an issue. Needless to say, its not just THIS post but hundreds of others on this site that try to digest the same basic themes based on race, color, and identity in the Dominican Republic.

Would you dare say that it is NOT an issue of importance or validity???
Written by: BernardJeanPierre, 13 Sep 2011 5:32 PM
From: United States
@divinedominicana - There is really no direct correlation to the Dominican Republic, it was simply something noteworthy that made most National news organizations to some degree. However, as the comments show how many people view beauty through the lens and context of race and color is still a very sensitive and stirring discussion. Due to the ignorance of some on both sides of the issue, the Dominican Republic is often looked at suspiciously because there is a loud voice of unity, pride and togetherness, but that is contrasted by many things that show racism, fear, hate, discrimination and intolerance. Simply put, it is more advantageous to be of a lighter and whiter skin tone and background than it is to be of a darker one. So, putting it all together, Miss Angola winning is indirectly a silent testimony for people who are personally invested in the thought that Black can not be attractive or beautiful.

I said black is beautiful because according to this article she is a mulatto LOLL. If this girl is a mulatto then Africa is a mulatto continent and Fulanis and Somalians are white africans.

I just noticed that this girl would NOT win in Latin America. And indeed black is beautiful, like White or Asian or whatever.

In Europe the most beautiful girls are in Northern and Eastern Europe : TRUE BEAUTIES. Indian Beauties are stunning, Asian beauties are also stunning.

But in Latin America and some carribean countries Beauty is synonym of whiteness ONLY . This is why she is called a mulatto in this article i.e. she is beautiful because mixed...

While the afronazis tend to focus on her colour (and then proceed to criticise others as basing everything on race) most Dominicans and Hispanics in general would focus on her last name which to us makes her one of ours!

The biggest race baiting in this forum is posted by afronazis and afrocentrists who are just as racist as their white counterparts.

In west africa many girls are more light skinned than this girl with what some would call "white features" ( noting that these features can be seen among chinese, indians, africans, polynesians, japanese etc) : Guinea, Mali , North Senegal, The Hausas of Niger and Nigeria.

Even in Congo/Angola you have many mulattoes ( mixed with French, Belgium), this girl is not a mulatto unless some have optic nerve issues.

You can find a black ebony man with "european features" and a white scandinavian with what some would called "african features", none of them being mixed.

@DT

Where did you get info that she is MULATTO? half black/white descent? please share and back up your saying! she is simply a BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN! that deserved her win!

Congrats to her!

People said she has white features... well she does NOT! Her African facial attributes may bit more refined but that does not make her mulatto. Halley Berry has white facial features and is clearly a mulatta. This girls, again, just a BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN.

If you had one white great grandparent and after all the marriages have been black, then that "Mulatto" mixture is long gone, you are just simply black. Same goes for having one black great grandparent and the rest of the mixture is white, you are just simply white, visually, still black in US one drop rule

Someone said that to Americans, 85% of Dominicans are black. Americans stopped using the term mulatto in 1930. Because of one drop rule, mulattoes are simply BLACK, ie Barack Obama, Halley Berry, so we DR are that to them

Now if the DR censuses would call this girl a mulatto, now we know what the 76 % so called mulattoes in the DR look like

Cubans have spanish names , Haitians have French Names, and Brazilians has portuguese names so what ?

I still don't see what her "other attributes" have to do with her portuguese name . Miss portugal is on the same page we all can compare.

In casamance region of west africa (senegal/Bissau Guinea) you have people with names : MENDY for MENDES, LOPI for LOPEZ, some have portuguese names like SYLVA or SILVA (This ethnic group is called MANDJAGO or MANJAKS) . But these people are not mulattoes, portuguese just colonized this area like they went or colonized Mauritania, Mali , Congo/Angola and East Africa.

In Europe we have blonds, or Morenos ( definition of a person with black hairs in Spain...), blue eyes, black eyes etc. According to their racist logic only scandinavians and eastern europeans would be the true whites ( Fine features, Blond, Tall, Blue Eyes) and the others (Spain, Italy, French, Portuguese) are fake "whites" or mixed with africans

It's the Nazi logic , who used to call Italians " Brown Apes" until they partner up in WWII. Actual nazis (white power groups in Europe) call the Spanish, Portuguese and Italians (White Nigg@s)

Africans have the largest panel of colors (Ebony, Light skinned) , features ( depending of people taste) , size (pygmies / giant zoulous or maasais) . This is not due to mixing with European or modern Arabs (the true arabs are in south arabia and they look Ethiopians/somalians).

"Cape Verdeans are damn near all mullattoes" ==> It's not true

You have Cape Verdeans who are ebony black, like you have mulattoes or near whites (they look north africans), it depends on which island you go.

MAJORITY of them are black not mulattoes. There is a huge community of Cape Verdean in France/Paris and even more in Senegal (west africa). A country a visited many times.

Patrick VIEIRA the French soccer is also from cabo verde, does he look "mulatto" ?

Stop this racist BS this woman is a beautiful BLACK woman, but your worship of "european " standards wants you to make her mulatto.

Cap verdienne :

http://www.jamati.fr/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/stella-2.jpg

None of you has put a foot in Africa and you want this girl to be a mulatto. If this girl is a mulatto then a africa is a mulatto continent. Only a bunch of ignorant racist white supremacists.

They use the same BS to make the Cibao a "white region" when it's mainly a black/mulatto area

Cont :

Many ancestors of Cape Verdians are from Senegal, the Lebous or Lebus a theocratic muslim society. Lebous are tall , black ebony with "white features".

The rest of their ancestors are from Congo/Angola region where the Pombeiros, Lancados and other Tangomaos ( white portuguese slave raiders) kidnapped slaves.

Colombus sold also many Tainos slaves in Cabo Verde ( see Las Casas)

In senegal region (zinguinchor) they speak a portuguese kreol, like in Guinea Bissau or Sao Tomé. Most are blacks not mulattoes.

Angolans are Congolese who speak Portuguese but most of them speak their native tongues.

You should stop talking about something you obviously don't know : Africans phenotypes huge diversity within African continent.

I can speak about the caribbeans and Africa because AT LEAST I visited both parts many times. So if my neighbour is a black ebony dominican all dominicans are black and ebony ? This is nonsense.

Written by: Nehesy, 19 Sep 2011 6:03 AM

Lebous, Fulanis, Hausas, Yourubas, Ibos and many other africans are classed as mulattoes : mixed with native africans and arabs, because many of them have some of the so-called "white features"...This was the racist anthropologists (Europeans like Seligman, Franz Boas, Evans Pritchard etc) theories/views of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

For these racists there is the "True negro" , black, short, typical bantou feautures. All black differents : Tall, Athletic, straight or frizzly hairs, are obviouly mualttoes... so they called them "Hamites" , sometimes whites with black skinned (ancient egyptians) or Semites.

Now you have ignorants/racists in DENIAL who call themselves whites when they are mulattoes and mulattoes when they are blacks who want to apply this "brainwashed" mentally to africans.

This lady in French interviews never said that she was mulatto but a proud black woman from Angola.

End of discussion : you can't do anything for brainwashed people anyway...

Here a typical Asian from the Andaman Islands ( south india), they are not africans and they are not slave descendants , they're the aboriginals inhabitants of this archipel:

http://www.shahamaasi.com/resources/man_$28andaman+islands$29.jpg

Aboriginals of Australia are black but not africans, like solomon islands are also blacks but not africans. Hundred thousand of years ago they left Africa to settle in Arabia, India and Asia.

Solomon Islanders :

Most of the actual indians in India are black people and even their god(s) like Kali or Krishna. If you ask to an educated Indian he would tell you that's because their ancestors came from Africa.

Blacks are the more diversified on earth ,ebony, brown, light skinned, all features, heights, sizes, Blonds, straight, frizzly, nappy hairs, Blue eyes etc

"They use the same BS to make the Cibao a "white region" when it's mainly a black/mulatto area"

Who's "they" and who has claimed that the cibao is a white region? Let me clear it up for you, and this is directly from a cibaeño...the cibao is just as mixed as other areas ot the country, HOWEVER (and it might rankle you or it might not but it is the fact) the European component is indeed the strongest in said region..only a cursory glance at the inhabitants of the interior will bear witness to as much. Read what you want into that as you always do. Furthermore, it's just plain arrogant to tell a people who are VERY familiar with what a mulatto looks like in their various shades that they don't have a clue as to what they speak of. A little humility might go a long way.

Yes Cibaeno you're right there are no mulattoes in Africa, Europa,US, so obviously we don't know what a mulatto look like.

My own brother is married to an Italian so I guess I don't know what my nephews ( my sons in my tradition/custom ) look like huh ?

This lady is not a mulatto , and you should visit one day this continent to review your " what a mulatto looks like " expertise". You're tricked by your own "racial" education.

Light skin (she is dark skinned though) + what some ignorants call "white features" is not a synonym of whiteness/Mixing

Scandinavians/Eastern European features ( noses, lips) can be found in East and West Africa among the Fulanis, Hausas, Somalians, Ethiopians just to name a few. At the same time nonexistent in other european countries like France, England and SPAIN...

Now for Cibao I Guess you're the expert I only know Santiago...But there were slave plantations at la vega and whites in CIBAO are mainly 19th century immigrants

Aida Aimee de la Cruz ex miss dominican is for me a mulata , we can compare her to that angolan lady.

Leila Lopes :

Ada Aimee de La Cruz :

Ruth Ocumarez :

Ocumarez who is really dark skinned (black ebony or la diosa de ébano ) is zamba (Black & Native Indian), you can see the Indian features in her

Review your expertise papa !

LF is a light skinned mulatto, Ada Aimée de la cruz is a mulata but this leila lopes is black woman, please leave her with her blackness.

We can compare phenotypes all day. Genetically phenotype means nothing. I know mullatoes that show no European strain but yet have a white grandparent with green eyes...I know phenotypically white mullatoes that show very little if any discernable African ancestry. With that said, only a fool would think human populations are static and that races didn't mix in Africa in pre-historic times so your argument means little when taking a long view of history and human interaction.

Furthermore, that's an extremely ignorant comment that whites came to the cibao in the 19th century. My ancestors were mostly of European origin and they had been on the island well before the Haitian Revolution. If you can muster up any information on Dominican geneaolgy research the surnames Valerio, Nuñez, Rivas, Peña..surnames that appear abundantly in our historical records dating back to the Spanish era. My ancestor Fernando Valerio was a middle-aged man in the middle of the 19th century when he was busy making war against the Haitian intruders, and his family already had deep roots on the island by that time. You know nothing about the Dominican people, that much is evident.

I already confessed my ignorance about Cibao since I said I only know Santiago (visited) , but can you show me up one census showing that Cibao region was predomantly white in the since the 15th-16th century ? you can't because african slaves were the more numerous group in La Hispaniola since the 16th century

La Vega is in the Cibao knew many slave revolts and there were Maroon communities.

The whites in the DR : at he 1st time of colonization (15th century)

- Spanish
- Europeans from spanish Empire (portuguese, flemish)
- Miscellaneaous groups (Italians, Germans)

Then you had the Canarios ( themselves mixed with spanish, guanches and african bloods)

Now if you say that you're a Hidalgo descendant good for you but most of them fled to the Mainland (Mexico) , Cuba and PR : Not enough Gold left in la hispaniola

Blacks and Mulattoes have always been the predominant group in the DR even before Haitian occupation : Deive, Dipp, Andujar, Moya Pons, Larrazabal Blanco

FYI, there was only one plantation of note in the cibao during the late colonial area..it was located in near what is today Lopez, Santiago, and it was owned by a frenchmen by the name of Espaillat, the forerunner of said family in my country..the cibao was not heavily populated by slaves..it was a land of poor farmers of mostly canary islander extraction with a little leavening from the Amerindian and African, and anu cursory glance of the people today will bear witness to what I just stated. Look at the works of Manuel Hernandez Gonzalez for a detailed study of the Canary Islanders that settled the interior and their legacy to the current population. And I never said anything about "hidalgos", You said that. Reading what you will into comments as always.

"only a fool would think human populations are static and that races didn't mix in Africa in pre-historic times so your argument means little when taking a long view of history and human interaction" LOL

The modern human was born in africa so with whom did he mixed when nobody was there in the other continents (This is why I posted Andaman islanders pics but you still did not get it) ?
The oldest skulls found in Europe (Grimaldi) have African phenotypes . The Paleotonlogist Yves Coppens will tell you that once upon a time even scandinavians were africans (blacks) and with time they evolved to be whites and blue eyes. A Blue eye is an eye without color. He reminds it everytime on french TV for Eurocentrists ignorants

This is why the Blonds in Africa are mainly found in Mountainous area ( Kabylia, Riff) but are dolicephals ( feature who belong to blacks only) .Modern studies will tell you that they're autochtones who lived many centuries in altitude and cold environment.

The first Europeans :

Copy the all link and paste it.

For me that mixing crap is only racism (looking up for the "true negro") . Denying that Africans never mixed with nobody would be a lie :

- Native Indians ancestry can be found in Cabo Verde ( as I said earier) , Angola ( Dutch came back from Brazil to expel the Portuguese from Congo/Angola) and North Africa (Algeria/Morocco) where Native Indians were also sold in the slave markets.

North Africans mixed with Vandals , and the Millions of Europeans slaves imported in that Area ( see Robert C Davis) . My only point is that if that girl is a mulatto then Africa is a mulatto continent. : BS

Spanish and Portugal were the two mulattoes country in europe before 1492 ( North Africans slaves + Subsaharans Africans slaves) , many of the conquistadores were themselves mixed with Moor or African Blood or native Africans

Modern studies still haven't discerned as to the why of mutations amongst poulations...do not present a hypothesis as fact please. With that said, in ancient Egypt various races of man already lived side by side...just look at some of their heiroglyphs and you can appreciate various shades of man, with differentiating body structure AND eye color. There where white pharoahs and jet black ones and everything in between. The races of man have been mixing for eons and its there for all to see if they care to.

"And I never said anything about "hidalgos", You said that. Reading what you will into comments as always." Ok my bad I wanted to say "suggest"

But for Canarios once again it's a mixing. First inhabitants the Guanches were closed to the berbers of North Africa and were called Loros by Spanish (they were mulattoes and scientits call them HAMITES).

Then they were decimated as a people , by wars and slavery by Spanish and Portuguese (like the Tainos later) . The remaining of the Guanches mixed with the spanish and the african slaves., since sugar production was first started in these areas (canary islands, sao tomé etc) before exporting the business to the new world.

Canarios were also among the first slaves in la Hispaniola you can read the first cedula against slave revolt in La Hispaniola (January 1522), Canarios are mentioned as esclavos along with whites and blacks ==> see the cedula in Guerrilleros Negros by Deive.

Thks for reference about Cibao

The Gaunches are a mystery even today though recent genetic tests have linked them, rather tenuously, to the Berbers of North Africa...according to Spanish chronicles the Gaunches were physically indistinguishable from the Europeans and ranged in appearance from Nordic types to meditteranean ones..the Canary Islands themselves recieved an influx of sub-saharan slaves and these undoubtably mixed with the population..they were the main component of our peasantry in the interior and some coastal towns such as Bani.

Nope the article I posted above ( Pr Keita and Kittles) confirms the same. For ancient Egypt I don't agree see Toby Wilkinson "Ancient Egypt" , Egyptian civilization came from south Egypt (i.e soudan), during Old Kingdom all modern studies shows that the bulk of population was african. or black. Even a DNA stuudy published by Egyptian authorities in French shows that Ramses II was not blond ( Hair Tainting), that he was brown skinned like Amnehotep III.

If you visit Old Kingdom Museum (Flinders Petrie) in London, they used Afro combs : I have the pictures at your disposition (lived in london for 4 yrs). Thoutmosis II in British museum (London) has full African features , like Ramses II : Got all the pictures too

But that's another debate...Peace

For racial make up of Guanches, Pr Sergi studied they skulls, you can find his conclusion into his book "Mediterranean race" , Cavalli Sforza also gave some statements about their racial make up.

You have to understand that original berbers are blacks ( berber culture is from Ethiopia) , if you knwo some Moroccans Berbers called "SCLEUHKH" ask them. But I guess you would call them mulattoes : Gabriel Camps about berbers

Or Malika Hachid :

Berbers can be blonds, Brown skinned, Mulattoes (like Bob Marley) or Blacks (many of them in Lybia ,South Morocco, South Algeria)

I agree that the ancient Egyptians were mostly a black people..but they recieved genes from all over the ancient world due to invasions..the hyksos, who gave Egypt several pharoahs, were whites..the ancient Lybians depicted in Egyptian heiroglyphs were depicted as blond and light eyed..alexander and his brood were indo-europeans..fact is that even before the arab invasion Egypt already boasted a very diverse poplation and you can see as much today.

All the more reason to conclude that they are indeed a mixed population...take out the word Berber and replace it with Domincan and it'll still be true.

Hyksos were canaanites ( who were mainly blacks and mulattoes and many looks white semites that is true) see Donald B Redford's book with iconographic evidence, but they were kicked out by the Theban rulers who were blacks. Egypt were mixed with the time cause eastern asians, lybians, Persians, greeks (mercenaries), Romans mingled with the population. But still Herodotus or Cicero who saw them (and many others) at their respective time described them as blacks.

Herodotus said that Egyptians were blacks with nappy hair : Book II ,104

In fact most the europeans in Egypt were captives, but since it was not a slave society they were integrated in the society. And many Pharoahs had asian concubines.

White Berbers were called Tamahu and Black berbers were called Tehenu : see Sir Alan Gardiner

If you want to see the real egyptians nowadays you should go to the south, actual egyptians are mixed with greeks, persians, romans, arabs , french, english

For arabs there is a huge manipulation of their original racial background the best example is when the arabs arrived in Egypt their chief was Ubadah Ibn Samit a pure arab ( Khazraj of the Sulaym bin Auf or tribe of The Ansars those who helped the prophet-saw)and he was black .

The Byzantine ruler (Muwqaqis) asked them to remove this black man from his sight, arab soldiers told him that he was among the most nobles (i.e Best Families) and a Warrior leader: Bernard Lewis "Race and Slavery in Islam"

First arabs were blacks arab historians called " Arab al Baida" or disappeared arabs (Ad, Thamoud). French Historians like François Lenormant or Caussin de Perceval :

http://www.amazon.com/lhistoire-l....TF8&qid=1316596604&sr=1-3

Or Sir Bertram Thomas who also an anthropologist and studied the skulls in Arabia , his conlusion : Arabs can be mongoloid, semites, Blacks

The first inhabitants were blacks , they came from Africa passed through arabia and settled in place like Persia or ancient sumer region (Irak) :

http://www.amazon.com/Arabs-Story....TF8&qid=1316596807&sr=1-3

Now if you have a look at Bernard Lewis' book, he says that most of the slaves in arabia were europeans , berbers, turks, persians, slavs (albanians) until the 18-19th (last groups sold by europeans to arabs specially the italians) , then when the supply was cut off, they turned to africa and took advantage of the African slave trade.

Arab ethnical backgrpound have been hugely modified by the european slaves imported. The color of the slaves in that time was AMAR which means RED (white people). Arabs described themselves as ADAM or ADLAM both terms meaning BLACK
