Santo Domingo.- At least 32 flights and thousands of reservations for Dominican Republic routes to New York, Boston and New Jersey have been canceled in the last 48 hours, leavening passengers stranded at the airports Las Americas, Puerto Plata, Santiago and Punta Cana, as Hurricane Sandy menaces the U.S. east coast.

Around l8 flights were suspended at Las Americas between Saturday night and Sunday morning, in the New York, Boston and New Jersey routes, in addition to other international destinations.

Among the flights canceled by carriers in the last few hours at Las Americas figure Jet Blue Delta Airlines, Continental, American Airlines and United, whose executives affirm they‘ll be resumed once the situation returns to normal in New York.

Flights to and from Miami, San Juan and Puerto Rico continue as scheduled.

Here, in Puerto Plata the Hurricane Sandy ony was just a wind - nothing more.
The North Coast, Monte Christi to Rio San Juan is Hurricane Free Zone.
We have several mountain ranges.
