New York.– Yansy Abreu, a 16-year-old Dominican teen, went to police within hours of the vicious machete attack last week near GAR Junior/Senior High School, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Abreu told officers he saw a man called
"Juancito" (Juan Borbon) swinging the weapon and nearly slicing off the hand of a
15-year-old GAR student. Other witnesses contradicted Abreu's story, saying he supplied the
weapon and acted as an accomplice to "Juancito."
Police on Friday charged Abreu and Borbon, 19, with aggravated
assault, conspiracy and other charges in the attack, which students and
parents said was fueled by a battle for dominance between Dominican and
African-American students at the school, thetimes-tribune.com reported.
The wound sliced three-quarters of the way through the 15-year-old
student's hand and required more than eight hours of surgery to repair,
according to prosecutors and the victim's mother.
Abreu moved to Wilkes-Barre from the Dominican Republic a
year ago. If convicted, he and Borbon face up to 20 years in prison.
