New York.– A man wanted in the Dominican Republic was arrested in the U.S. and taken into custody in Providence on July 20, state police Superintendent Col. Steven O'Donnell said.
According to an AP report, Juan Carlos Zapata-Lara (29) faces two counts of murder in his native country and was also charged with drug possession in Rhode Island after police say they seized 45 grams of heroin during his arrest.
Zapata-Lara was arrested after the authorities knew he had entered the U.S. illegally and was living in Providence under an assumed name, the AP report said. Extradition talks were under way.
An arrest warrant for Zapata-Lara was issued in the Dominican Republic in 2010 in connection with two shootings committed in March of that year.
