Providenciales.– Police in the Turks and Caicos islands investigate how a boat overloaded with Haitian migrants capsized as it was being towed into port in the British Caribbean territory, killing 17 people.

Rescue efforts were called off in the capital Providenciales after no additional bodies were found following the incident in the early hours of Christmas Day, after the boat was intercepted at sea.

According to a police statement, the bodies of a dozen men and five women were recovered Wednesday from the clear water. The 33 survivors –21 men and 12 women– were being questioned at an immigration detention facility about both the cause of the accident and how they ended up on the doomed boat.

As a 40 year mariner, something STINKS when a boat in tow sinks..... They survived crossing one of the worst passages anywhere, only to drown while under tow. SOMETHING STINKS

Probably they were being towed WAY WAY too fast, by a high powered vessel

Why is it that for a people who are born and raised on an island an inordinate amount of Dominicans and Haitians don't know how to swim ?!

Clearly the governments of both countries need to address this issue, but this is something a family member needs to teach to the young ones.

C'Mon people. Teach the child!

Self determination rules supreme !!!

We the Dominican people, have a universal Human Rights,

to self determination.

To establish immigration laws as we see fit.

To decide who is or isn't our citizens,

and to deport all illegals from our territory,

in accordance with the rule of our internal laws.

""with no external compulsion or interference""

This came out of the United Nations, Charter's norms.

United Nations, Atlantic Charter, signed on 14 August 1941, by Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States of America, and Winston Churchill.

We the Dominican people,

will prevail in our human right to self determination.

Haitians and their advocates have had their day in the sun in 2013.

!!!!! 2014 will be the Dominican guerrilla warfare of counter attack !!!!

No Dready,

The flows out of Haiti ARE different in degree. The reasons why the World and the Caricom don't go after Sweet Micky and the Gang (Where's the NGO's? Where's Baron fratakaka?) are known.

Haiti has been given a sort of "free pass" by these entities and people.

Control the border? Not Haiti. That's DR's responsibility.

Control illegal Sea departures? Not Haiti. That's for others to do. And so on.

Notice that seldom will you see any of these entities attacking Haiti and their leadership for the abomination that has occurred in that part of the Caribbean. When the dictators were there, Papa Doc and Baby Doc, sure you read some pieces, but after they died or were removed, very little anti-Haitian leadership articles, e
