Port of Spain.– Thirty-tree Dominican nationals along with two Colombians and one Guyanese  were arrested during a police raid at a popular hotel in Marabella, in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago, on Thursday night.

According to a police report released Friday, a team of agents –including Fraud Squad, Counter Trafficking Unit and immigration officials– visited the hotel, where they found scantily dressed women, allegedly soliciting clients.

The women were taken to the San Fernando CID, where they were interviewed through interpreters.

Ricardolito, this is a sad commentary on Dominican womanhood, insofar as there are too many mothers who teach their girls that their money making asset is not above their neck, but between their legs.

yes ,you are right but what a joy for the young girls to find that out ,because young Dominicans of both sexes love much sex with different partners ..it is a national past time and I saw elsewhere that 130 000 babies were born last year but the father has not been registered .
Casual sex is a way of life here and I simply note it but make no judgement ,

Prostitution is legal in this country and so is in many country and places including the one the most famous city in the USA which is Las Vegas. So where was the crime committed dudes. What is the different between a woman getting pay for laying on her back or a woman doing it with a guy just because the guy has a lot of money and takes them on expensive vacations, Non only that one of those women gets cash and the other gets expensive vacation and meals.

In Holland one of the most civilized country in this planet prostitution is legal. So to be honest I don't see what so bad about those women trying to make a living on their backs. Can anyone here say what is wrong with that.

I don't like prostitutes but if a woman wants to lay on her back for money then so be it.

Prostitution is nothing to be proud about, but I believe in the freedom of will and choice and while there are other alternatives, prostitution is always an option of last resort. What I don't understand, why pick such a tough field, when there is always something better then being a puta. Selling your body for money, is selling your soul to the devil

Don't bother with these dirt cookie eating pitis, they are all madly jealous of us, and believe this:
Even our lowest "working girls" in Haiti, want nothing to do with natives, for obvious reasons.
They stink, are loud and violent and like to beat up women, don't honor their word and want free pussy, and are deadbeats, obnoxious and with a superiority complex. DR girls in Haiti run away from Haitian men like the devil to a cross, since they are there to take care of the Minustah soldiers, that do pay them well, and appreciate them.
Dominican women don't want anything to do the the Haitian scourge. Who can blame them?

My theory is this: Trujillo is at fault.

Trujillo loved easy money. He forced his old azz on very young women and forced the masses to accept this as normal. He discriminated against people of color and spent most of his life trying to whiten his country.

See where all this is coming from? He was a fool. Not only was he part Haitian, but he married a Haitian-Dominican, Heureaux. Blame 'el chivito', that little white goat that constantly shows up in your backyard looking for lemon grass.

@Trinitario , The man became the laughingstock in the DR,because skin bleaching isn't a trend in the country. As much as these self-loathing blacks want it to be so...Sosas actions shows us how ignorant and out right stupid people interpret Americas racist society... He thought that whitening himself and wearing 'green contacts' was going to gain him more "acceptance" in Americas race circus, not to mention more acceptance from his White (blue blooded) associates... Instead, all he accomplished was making a mockery of himself and the people he represents...We can see a similar change in African Americans once they reach stardom i.e marrying white women, skin bleaching, surgeries ect... Lets not try to make believe for a second that Sosas actions were a product of Dominican society,as much as these centrist not only imply it but use it to fuel their baseless rants.America did that to Sosa...

I like these kind of articles, because it lures all the Anti-Dominican haters on this site into exposing their wannabe un-bias facade...Like vultures flying over the DR looking for any sign of frailty so they can attack our national pride ...Haters with no justifiable reason to be Haters. And no, you're not haters because you criticize the content of this article, you're haters because you over exaggerate, while using this article as an excuse to take cheap shots.Especially the Haitian posters, what genuine reason does your ilk have for disliking Dominicans? Is it because they have a problem with being invaded by the poorest and most backwards country in the hemisphere, which also happens to be the country they celebrate independence from? If anything you should be on your knees saying thank you, ungreatful rabble...

Chilliwestaziz the Haitian-Jamaican skin bleacher:

"Color Me White: Inside The Growing Skin-Bleaching Epidemic in Jamaica"

Skin-lightening is now considered an epidemic in Jamaica, reaching disturbing levels within recent months.

Even with the ubiquity of public health campaigns listing the risks and damages of the process, an alarming number of Jamaican residents still insist on bleaching their skin for what they perceive to be a more attractive appearance. Many Jamaicans believe that lighter skin will lead to a better life.

2.

The island’s obsession with skin-lightening gained national attention when reggae artist, Vybz Kartel debuted a startling and unsettling image of his new lighter look. His pride in the face of critics underscored the mindset of color prejudice within the Jamaican community that says that lighter is better.
That endless pursuit of lighter skin is causing Jamaicans to put themselves and even their family members at risk. In one particularly disturbing incident, a dermatologist in Jamaica encountered a patient who was bleaching her baby’s skin. Once the dermatologist told her to stop immediately, she became irritated and walked out of his office.

3.

The effects of skin-bleaching are indeed highly dangerous. Harmful chemicals like hydroquinone and toxins like mercury can cause serious damage to the skin which cannot be reversed. The former is linked to ochronosis, a condition that leads to unsightly dark splotching. Doctors also blame skin bleaching for bunches of stretch marks across several Jamaicans’ faces.

Yet the threat of damage has not deterred many from bleaching their skin. In fact, some of the poorer people on the island have even resorted to using toothpaste or curry powder to give their skin a more yellow tint.

4.
Health officials and some reggae artists are taking a public stand against skin-bleaching with radio advertisements, posters in schools and literature warning about the dangers of this process. In 2007, there was a similar anti-bleaching campaign called “Don’t Kill The Skin” which obviously wasn’t successful.

To be sure, the skin-bleaching obsession and color prejudice is not specific to Jamaica. Studies show that skin-lightening is prominent in Africa, where Jamaicans are said to get bleaching products on the black market.

5.

In an allegedly post-racial society, it’s telling that light skin is still put on a pedestal in darker-skinned communities. This phenomenon shows that the roots of self-hate and idolization of whiter skin still run deep.

As a Brooklyn-born American with a Jamaican father, I was always taught to celebrate Jamaica’s rich culture and to honor our African ancestry. This cultural sense of pride clashes so violently with a desire to embrace European standards of beauty that it makes you wonder: are we prideful when compared to other blacks and islanders while still harboring an inferiority complex when it comes to whites?

6.

No matter the underlying cause, the only way to tackle this problem is to address the color prejudice that’s alive and well in the black community. From rappers in pop culture who rap about preferring a “redbone” to even the exclusive usage of light-skinned models in videos and advertisements, there needs to be a collective dismantling of limited notions of beauty and a universal, renewed appreciation for darker skin tones.

Now that Yoselyn Ortega, New York's so-called "Killer Nanny," is well enough to speak after stabbing two children in her care to death before stabbing herself, she has officially been charged with two counts of murder. Unfortunately for media outlets who have thus far reveled in the alarmist "Killer Nanny" tales, the story emerging from the Ortega killings is less about an evil nanny and more about a sick, sad, increasingly stressed middle-aged lady who wasn't getting the help she needed and snapped in one of the most hideous ways imaginable. In the immediate aftermath of 2-year-old Leo Krim and 6-year-old Lucia Krim's murders, it came to light that Ortega's friends and family had noticed for months that the 50-year-old was steadily unraveling.

48-Year Old Man Arrested, Caught in Sexual Act with Minor in Car

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Police in Haiti arrested a 48 year old Haitian man on Thursday caught in the act of having sex with a 14 year old girl still in her school uniform.
Officers of the law did not allow Ernso Dormévil, 48, to dress himself after his parked car was discovered off Bourdon Street at 12:30 pm with the girl only in her 8th year of fundamental education.
Handcuffed and naked, in an area where several schools were located and were in attendance, the man was made to stand outside the car while police processed his arrest papers and set his car for impoundment.
The offense of "zokiki", older men having relations with young girls, is one of the major problems in Haiti. It was the hallmark of former Government Commissioner Jean Renel Senatus' term at the head of prosecutions in Port-au-Prince before being fired.

Four Haitian Children Killed in Voodoo Exorcism

A police investigation is underway in the southern Haitian town of Marbial after a woman was arrested for her role in the exorcism deaths of her four children. The children, ranging in age from seven years to fifteen months, were found dead after being reportedly beaten to death by a local "sorceror" and healer who had persuaded the mother that they were suffering from a mysterious illness caused by demonic possession. The sorceror, assisted by his brother, beat the children repeatedly to expel the demon and "save their souls". While neighbours reported being aware that the children were suspected of being possessed, there was no attempt at intervention before the children died of their injuries. Following the deaths, the sorceror and his brother fled Marbial and are believed to be hiding in Port-au-Prince. Haitian authorities are continuing to pursue leads to determine their current whereabouts.

"Jamaican Fisherman Back From Haitian Hell"

PORT ANTONIO, Portland:

WHEN LOCAL fisherman Fitzroy Linton was sentenced to seven months for illegal entry in a Haitian court in 2007, little did he know that he would spend the next three years incarcerated in a cell with 64 other inmates under what he described as inhumane conditions.

The memories of seeing burnt bodies being chopped up and prepared for cooking, and the daily beating of inmates by prison warders are but a few of the painful recollections which continue to haunt the youngster who hung his head, fighting back the tears as he spoke to The Gleaner in Port Antonio yesterday.

"There were a lot of things I was forced to do in order to survive," the 24-year-old fisherman said. "We were crammed in what is probably a 10x10 cell, all 64 of us. We were fed two times per day, at 11 a.m and at 5 p.m. We had no drinking water, and, therefore, had to buy water off the street, which was dirty and smelly."

Triple murder suspect Wesnel Isaac, who was brought to Fort Myers from Haiti Thursday after seven years on the run, will be held without bond.

Isaac appeared briefly Friday morning in 20th Circuit Court.

A state's attorney argued for him to be held without bond, and his attorney said he would not object. He will bring up any bond issues at a later date, he said.

A trial date is set for June 16, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Isaac was captured in Haiti Saturday. U.S. Marshals picked him up there Thursday and brought him to Fort Myers late that night.

He was the first person from Southwest Florida to be listed on the marshals' Top 15 most wanted. There was a $25,000 reward placed on him.

The fugitive suspect in a 2007 triple kidnapping and murder was extradited from Carrefour, Haiti Thursday after nearly seven years on the lam.

Wesnel Isaac, 33, was one of the U.S. Marshal Service's top 15 fugitives, with a $25,000 reward on his head. He was the first from Southwest Florida to make that list after being placed there in 2013.

"It's a pretty big deal," Deputy U.S. Marshal John Kinsey, who went to Haiti to pick up Isaac, said.

Isaac was arrested Saturday by Haitian national police in the city of Carrefour, where he had family, Kinsey said. Three marshals and a representative of the Lee County Sheriff's Office flew to Haiti early Thursday to pick up Isaac, then flew into Miami in the afternoon. He was driven by car to Fort Myers, arriving at the federal courthouse in Downtown Fort Myers around 9:20 p.m.

The defendants are alleged to have used and relied upon their ties to “Zoe Pound,” which over the past two decades has grown and branched out from its Miami roots and is well known for its involvement in drug trafficking, robbery and related violent crime, to facilitate and advance the conspiracy’s drug trafficking activities in Evansville.

A man described by police as an influential street gang member is expected to be deported to Haiti today after losing a battle to challenge his removal order in court.

Proceedings to have Thomas Bernavil, 33, deported began in 2005. Despite living in Canada since he was 15, Bernavil was only a permanent resident while he put together a criminal record that stretches from 1996 to last year.

Bernavil, who was born in Port-au-Prince in 1974 and came to Canada in 1991, challenged the deportation order through Immigration Canada's tribunal system, claiming if he is returned to Haiti he faces possible torture or persecution.

Education in Haiti

Formal Education rates in Haiti are among the lowest in the Western Hemisphere.Haiti’s literacy rate of about 53% (55% for males and 51% for females) is below the 90% average literacy rate for Latin American and Caribbean countries. The country faces shortages in educational supplies and qualified teachers. The rural population is less educated than the urban. The 2010 Haiti earthquake exacerbated the already constrained parameters on Haiti's educational system by destroying infrastructure and displacing 50-90% of the students, depending on locale.

I am not surprised when I visited Haiti, their was a place called casa Blanca where all the prostitutes were Dominican women and not too far away their was another place Le Lambi where the Haitian prostitutes were. Actually from what I have read a great number of Dominicans are locked up in Haitian jails for theft and kidnapping, building a wall is not a bad idea! Haiti has enough problems without having Dominican deportees causing more problems for them!i

REALLY!! Just because of their "presence." WOW!!

But yeah, come to think of it.
....that is true....you are absolutely correct. And I don't blame them. Its the horrible under arm odor...It does it every time. Other then that there is definitely no other reason other then the stench. They do smell bad

But Dominicans just love Haitians. That is why 1 of 5 street pedestrian is Haitian and seen roaming freely everywhere throughout the DR. That is why our hospitals are full of pregnant Haitian women who come to give birth while the rest get the best free medical care possible. We love Haitians so much that we allow their children to cross the border and enroll in our schools to get educated. We also give free documentation. Yes, we dislike them a lot

Yeah, yeah, yeah............you are right. We want to forget them badly. That is why we were the first to run to their rescue and assitance during the Haitian earth quake. Yeah, yeah, yeah.........we want to forget them badly and that is why we give over 1,000,000 Haitians employment in the DR. That why we allow them to be beggers, peddlers, vendors and have micro-business enterprises, selling anything on the planet that you could imgine without having permission to do it. Yes, yes, yes....that is why we want to forget them so badly. We even give them free documentation to live legally in the DR. Yes, my friend we want to forget them real bad........

Racism lives here and in Haiti

By Emmanuel W. VEDRINE, University of Rhode Island
Boston Haitian Reporter, Vol. 6, Issue #10

It is quite funny when reading on-line some Haitians who put so much emphasis on racism as if there was no racism back home. What would we conclude if we’d just take a trip back to Haiti and take a look at most of the students who attend top prestigious schools to see what color they are.

There was a light skinned Haitian couple who, in the 70's, moved to a white neighborhood in New York because they taught they'd pass for white (as they would with no problem in Haiti or in the Dominican Republic). But when white kids in the vicinity started shouting at them by calling them the “N” word, they had to move out quickly.

Written by: Trinitario809, 17 Jun 2014 10:30 PM
From: Dominican Republic, is not the solution to Haiti's problems !
Racism can exist anywhere. We can talk about it, criticizing it, etc. But, hey, it will still exist. Just be proud of who we are, be proud of what we can accomplish or have accomplished in life to help others and our community.
I myself felt as a foreigner in my own native Haiti, when I could not live in certain areas or attend certain schools. This is a so-called “black country” where most dark skinned people are being mistreated because they are poor, low class, uneducated; in another word, the underdogs.

The opportunities I’ve enjoyed in my host country, the United States (since 1976), there is no way I'd have that back in my native land. So, all foreigners living in the US shouldn’t be ashamed of uttering one of the greatest American phrases, “God bless America!”.

I've been in DR for the last coupe of years havent seen any towards me, but they would recognise me right away that im a gringo.

Which banks in Haiti would lend students money to attend Universities? How many students in Haiti with top grades in secondary schools receive scholarships to study abroad? Summarizing from the Creole saying, Rayi chen, di dan l blan (Hate the dog, say its teeth are white).

Let’s learn to credit the host countries that give us some opportunities, let’s see the positive things we can get from them in order to live a better life in society and then to educate our children. Most Haitians that I know who brag of going back to Haiti to live, after few months there, they want to live the country. So, there’s a problem there and at the same time, we shouldn’t forget the native land; we must try to help it since the host country has given us some opportunities.

Written by: Trinitario809, 17 Jun 2014 10:32 PM
From: Dominican Republic, is not the solution to Haiti's problems !
Let’s be realistic! If we have left Haiti for a political or economical cause, I am pretty sure that we’ve left it for a better life. In another word, we are not going to kalewès or sitting down doing nothing in the host country. But we must work hard in order to get the best from it. People who are complaining all the time by not doing anything to improve their living conditions are the ones who always have a miserable life.

But are we going to complain about racism here and there or focus on opportunities? So, if back home in Haiti, most Haitians are not being treated as human beings, how on earth we Haitians expect to be treated well even in the neighboring Dominican Republic?
Written by: Trinitario809, 17 Jun 2014 10:33 PM
From: Dominican Republic, is not the solution to Haiti's problems !

So, is there any racism in Haiti? A close friend of mine, from the upper class in Haiti, was telling me how some of her relatives tried their very best to get a divorce for one their daughters who married a darked skin, low class man who is a very intelligent guy and then went all the way to Brazil to find a poor white Brazilian to arrange a second marriage for her in order to “save” the race.

Even the darkest person in Haiti would call another one kaka dyab (devil shit). So, how do we, Haitians, expect a lighter skinned person to behave back home when most dark skinned Haitians are not proud of their own skin color?

So, the questions we must think of are: what do we, who suffer from racism, learn from our own experience? Are we going to cry all our lives or move on doing positive things in life, such as getting an education, pursuing a career, learn a trade, helping our community, volunteering our time to help our community, etc.?

The friction between DR and Haiti stems from past Historical events.
Back in 1822 Haiti invaded and occupied DR for 22 years and tried to change our racial make up and religious believes. They also closed our universities and misappropriated private property in order to pay their debt to France.

They finally got kicked out in 1844 and were successfully repelled and defeated 9 more times after that.

To this day, they are bitter and sour about the only chance they had to unify the island and in their delusion they still believe the whole island belongs to them.

Well, we showed them otherwise.

But I know for sure Haitian don't talk everyday about Dominican, like Dominican people do, you are not so important in their life. Hate, I don't believe that neither, the one who hate it's you people. Your real problem it's because Haitian are black in majority, if they were white, blue eyes you will never react that way you do for sure, Oh yeah! you will feel happy to breed with them. " But I know for sure Haitian don't talk everyday about Dominican"

Really??...Where do I begin ?

Tell it to the million plus of your brothers living in DR.
Tell it to the 42,000 returned this year so far.
Tell it to the the 173 detained these past few days, because back in Haiti they're SPREADING THE WORD TALKING ABOUT DOMINICANS GIVING DOCUMENTATION TO ALL THE ILLEGALS (or so they think).
Not only that, but your government now wants to export about 200,000 Haitians a year, you can find that piece of information on "La Nouvelle", your own Haitian newspaper.

Look at you for example, the headline reads: "33 Dominicans held at a hotel in Trinidad & Tobago"
and somehow you had the need to come here to talk sh!t about Dominicans, even though this has nothing to do with you or your people.
And then you say, that you don't talk about Dominicans everyday?
